Marcel Brands

The situation we are in now is much more down to Benitez than anyone else. That isn't to say Brands is blameless (he isn't) but what happened in this run, in midweek, or especially last Sunday, is on Benitez.
our biggest problem is squad depth, that's all on him
….from what we know, he doesn’t acquire players and he doesn’t acquire managers, indeed he was clearly against the Benitez appointment. Benitez getting his way I suspect, deflecting the blame.

No problem with him being sacked but it won’t solve the problem.
if our problem is not maintaining last year's form we are currently 3 points behind schedule after the injury list from hell. By mid Jan we'll be fine

Because the 250 million he signed was playing good enough to earn him a 3 year contract extension under a capable manager.

I would imagine something like that

Gomes £22 million
Kean £27 million
Gbamin: £25 million
Iwobi: £27 million
Delph £8.5 million
Loan fees for Sidibe/Lossl/Olsen

You cant waste over £100 million and millions in wages and have any sympathy.

We still haven't replaced Coleman 3 years in ffs.

Sad to see.

If he was allowed to do his job properly then we may well have been in a much better position. Clearly many players / managers were brought in over his head.

Saying that , you can't say the club is a mess and not have his head on the block alongside the rest. It's still his remit , even if he wasn't completely in control.

Glad he resigned , walk away from this horror show with some integrity rather than stay and run the same circles.

Only an idiot could imply that he's been responsible for all of our signings. Managers have had far too much of a say. How else can you explain the likes of Tosun AND Rondon? James Rodriguez was clearly an Ancelotti signing etc.

Signings aside he was also incompetent at selling players. The academy is failing and so are the backroom staff. He was the technical director in charge of all areas of the team and he failed miserably.

He deserves to go obviously. But this is the most shameless attempt at scapegoating. We need to completely clean house. This is about collective failure not any individual.
why on earth does Benitez deserve to lose his job? we are three months into his first season, we've had a hellish injury list on a squad with no depth, and are still just three points behind schedule to finish where we finished last season. He was given no. transfer budget. He needs a couple of seasons to sort things out. and Moshiri will give him that.

Oh I'm not arguing he has been bad.

My point is that under a manager with some ability it didn't look bad enough to get him the sack.

Hire Benitez and our players look even worse than we thought, partly due to them being crap and mostly down to Benitez being even more crap than they are.
