Marcel Brands

Brands the scapegoat. How can a DOF run the club when an idiot owner hires a new manager every 12/18mths and allows each of them to bring 3 or 4 of their own players. If we're going to have a DOF he has to identify a style from top to bottom, source coaches and players for the style of the club witthout interference from the owner. Moshiri pipe down and build the stadium. Benitez out next.

Hahaha

Can’t help but wonder how things may have been different if Benitez would have been willing to sign one of the RBs that Brands recommended. I’m sure Benitez will be happy enough to keep collecting his fat paycheck.

No complaints with Brands leaving however. Can’t be responsible for Iwobi and expect to keep your job.
With what money? Brands is responsible for the dire FFP situation we’re in. That’s why he had to go.

Wouldn’t have been against him moving in in the summer - AFTER Benitez had gone, but this is a disastrous idea.

I can well imagine Benitez complained about being undermined after Brands had said ‘Is it just the players?’

This strengthens Benitez’ hand, and makes the Sean Longstaff signing and relegation much more likely IMO.

Sad to see.

If he was allowed to do his job properly then we may well have been in a much better position. Clearly many players / managers were brought in over his head.

Saying that , you can't say the club is a mess and not have his head on the block alongside the rest. It's still his remit , even if he wasn't completely in control.

Glad he resigned , walk away from this horror show with some integrity rather than stay and run the same circles.
Agree mate but the flipside is that he signed an extension anyway. So I don't feel bad for him at all.

Moshiri didn’t empower the DoF to be a DoF. We know players are largely acquired by the Managers and Moshiri, yet many blame Brands for wasting monies.

Blaming him disguises the real problems. You say he should’ve stood up to Moshiri, it sounds like he’s had enough if he’s leaving without compensation.

That is why he should have resigned before now, unless he was waiting for the chance to appoint a manager himself and was hoping that Moshiri would turn to him when his appointments failed.

At least with him out of the club we might finally find out what went on during the managerial search this summer; if he was going for Galtier only to be overruled and saw Benitez installed instead then Moshiri is an idiot.

He's leaving with compensation til the end of the season, and if he had professional integrity he wouldn't have signed a new contract last spring.

No, he's been sacked, e.g. 'by mutual consent', and my word if anyone ever deserved a sacking in football it's him.

Moshiri is a stupid man. He's someone who doesn't have a clue about football but won't put in place a team to run an asset for him that does know what it's doing. But we can't do anything about Moshiri realistically, so the pressure has to go elsewhere and just hope Moshiri learns his bloody lesson. Sacking Brands had to be done and hopefully it's a sign it's starting to sink in that owning a football club as a toy and sending texts to Jim White isn't cutting the mustard.
