They've used his comment of "do you really thinks it's just the players" to get him out on the cheap, reckon they threatened him with gross misconduct or walk away paid up till the end of the season. I'm not saying I don't agree with him going but it appears it's the first "sacking" that the club hasn't paid through the nose for over a number of years. There now needs to be a lot more done with the structure (and its members) than just replacing a piece of the furniture.

Wait, so the board thought he was good enough when he was offered (and signed) a new contract in April, but, after only being given £1.7m to spend in the summer, he's suddenly not good enough?

Don't get me wrong, he's flattered to deceive, but if he's the only one to go, this is no more than blatant scapegoating.

And Townsend and Rondon were clearly handpicked by Benitez.

Brands could/should have been fired before now but why give him the new deal only to reduce his influence and then scapegoat him?

He resigned though? So threw in the towel
This is how I’m interpreting the mysteries of the Everton tea leaves at the moment. I reckon the altercation with the fan, coupled with not being able to make transfer decisions, has made him think “screw this.”

But I know nothing, and everyone has their ideas as to what is actually going on behind the scenes at Everton.

Shows how fickle and kneejerk the board/Moshiri is though doesn't it?

A whiff of discontent and the Director of Football who was given a 3 year gig in April and suddenly, bang. Change.

People queried and doubted if any discontent towards the board would have any influence - well here is your answer.

If my view, the pressure has to keep on. Moshiri simply can not allow this failing board to continue.

We don't know everything that goes on behind closed doors, we're just guessing. But a decision has been made. Let's see what happens now. Moshiri is right to ask the question its his money Brand's has wasted on utter garbage and a lot of money at that.

With what money? Brands is responsible for the dire FFP situation we’re in. That’s why he had to go.
Here you go:

Recruiting a successor to club captain Seamus Coleman has been on the club's agenda for a number of years but new manager Rafael Benitez was not prepared to sign a player this summer that did not meet his exacting standards.

Money was too precious and Benitez, who has only just inherited the right-back issue, was unwilling to risk squandering the club's cash.

The manager, club sources have confirmed, was not fully convinced on the merits of meeting the asking price for Denzel Dumfries, for example.

You've just quoted the Echo there, in a way where it seems you think it means anything. Odd.
