Best thing all round is to now scrap that Director of Football role.
It wont take at this club. It's alien.
Firing him does not alone fix anything
We’re all going to have our gut feelings about this at the moment - and mine is that he’s walked rather than been pushed. In which case, this likely speaks to more chaos behind the scenes than a plan being carried out, in my view.
We’ve been needing a RB for about 3-4 years. I’m no Benitez fan but it’s a bit ridiculous putting it on him. Here you go:
Recruiting a successor to club captain Seamus Coleman has been on the club's agenda for a number of years but new manager Rafael Benitez was not prepared to sign a player this summer that did not meet his exacting standards.
Money was too precious and Benitez, who has only just inherited the right-back issue, was unwilling to risk squandering the club's cash.
The manager, club sources have confirmed, was not fully convinced on the merits of meeting the asking price for Denzel Dumfries, for example.

NDA will likely torpedo that.….be nice if he now dishes the dirt & tells us exactly what’s been going on. Only way we’ll find out I expect.
Hold on. Does that still mean he's on the board?
Iwobi was unforgiveable. It took you long enough like.
This defo strengthens Benitez's position.Benitez in charge of January, the likes of Longstaff and Manquillo in, gets sacked when we're hovering above relegation zone, next manager comes in right before DCL and Richy leave. Hello Doncaster away.
Hope he's resigned and no non disclosure and open a whole can of worms….be nice if he now dishes the dirt & tells us exactly what’s been going on. Only way we’ll find out I expect.
Brands is obviously the scapegoat here. Clearly though he his either entirely responsible for the awful transfers we've had or else he's been consistently overlooked by managers and the owner. Either way is not a good look for him and either way is reason enough for him being sacked. Give him full control of a club and he might do well but his spell in charge of us has contained some of our worst business in our history so it is what it is.
You can certainly make excuses for him but that doesn't mean he's done a good job. Same as Benitez, can't totally control the state of the club but hasn't done anything to help the situation.
