Marcel Brands

Moshiri was backed into a corner, he had to back Brands or Benitez.
He’s backed the wrong guy.

He shouldn't be backing either of them. He's just totally clueless and has too big an ego to admit he made a mistake with Benitez

This is all about protecting Moshiri at this point. Other clubs of our stature would have acted weeks ago, but our owner won't allow himself to look silly. The man is going to get the club relegated because he can't make rational decisions or allow someone else to make the decisions.

The problem is that only thing that happens when he rights one of his wrongs, is that he makes another (often bigger one). The last 24hrs being just another example.
I disagree mate, getting rid of Brands was the right move, his record here speaks for itself (We don't have a profitable asset from his time here) and the fact we still don't have a RB to replace Coleman is criminal.

Brands Didnt bring an identity to the club that has been missing post moyes but A succession of different managers of completely different styles leaves me in no doubt blame lies above brands head.
Whatever suits on the day for moshiri.

More and more noises coming out that Brands wasn’t to blame for Iwobi, never wanted Zaha, and if he had his way we’d have Potter as manager with Dumfries at right back rather than a washed up Kopite and an ailing Coleman. Let’s be honest he was never allowed to do his job and Moshiri is a big problem.
If this is all true, then yes we are in real serious trouble

The mental gymnastics in here since the sacking are incredible.

He didn’t have a single supporter last week and now he’s a martyr.

Yes the Kopite pig should be sacked, the utterly under qualified DBB needs punting and Boys Pen needs scragging out by his hair but that doesn’t mean that Brands does not deserve the sack. He absolutely does, whether that’s due to incompetence or allowing himself to be undermined… Either way is bad enough to warrant the bullet.

I thought I pointed this out earlier - NDA was baked into his orignal contract of employment, regardless of departure method.
I think the only point I am making is that regardless of when NDA was included it is only the deferred compensation that makes it enforceable. The ‘legal contract’ element is weak in legal terms had he walked away without a settlement.

Sorry, I'm trying to read three threads here at once. Yes, you're quite right, sorry I misread that.

Not sure many are saying he should have stayed. If he wasn't able to carry out what (we believe) to be his role, then he shouldn't be here. But what is coming out is that a lot of the pathetic decisions weren't him.

He needed to be sacked, but along with several others. For him and only him to be sacked shows he is being scapegoated when he was just a contributing factor to the overall problem.

Eh?! Even taking into account price reduction due to pandemic, that's just not true.

Richarlison - would make us significant money if we sold him.
Kean - is going to make us (a very small amount of) money when he signs permanently for Juve
Godfrey - will likely make us money if/when sold
Doucouré - we certainly wouldn't lose money on
Branthwaite - would certainly turn at least SOME profit right now - perhaps a big one in time.
Digne - even with his recent poor form, he'd very definitely turn a profit on £18m

Who are the big money "failures" (as in players who'd lose us a lot of money)?
Gbamin - hard to blame him for this? He'd not had an injury in like 3 or 4 years before joining
Iwobi - turns out he had nothing to do with this signing (IMAGINE my shock - only been saying it for a couple of years)
Gomes - had a horrific injury, but nonetheless this one was a miss. Let's not forget though that most fans were absolute made up when we signed him permanently.
Mina - arguably our best defender when fit. Another who didn't have anywhere near this level of injuries before joining us.

Agree on the rightback issue, but sounds like he had Dumfries more or less lined up before Benitez vetoed it.

If Brands was going to be sacked, he should have been way down the line of those getting the bullet. Including behind the owner.

….there is a suggestion Moshiri engages directly with players agents. Godfrey was on the clubs radar but not at a price that took us over FFP, it seems Moshiri ignored that and authorised the transaction.

The more we hear, the more disturbing Moshiri’s involvement is. I think time will demonstrate much of the flack aimed at Brands was incorrectly directed.

So Brands wanted him then? And Mosh decided to get him as we were a CB light.

No issue from me.
