Marcel Brands

More and more noises coming out that Brands wasn’t to blame for Iwobi, never wanted Zaha, and if he had his way we’d have Potter as manager with Dumfries at right back rather than a washed up Kopite and an ailing Coleman. Let’s be honest he was never allowed to do his job and Moshiri is a big problem.

Kia Joorabchian's growing influence sheds light on Arsenal's identity crisis | Nick Ames

The super-agent’s involvement in some eyebrow-raising deals has sparked fears that the once famously resourceful club no longer has a coherent approach to recruitment

'The Football Association’s list of intermediary transactions, released this week, shows Sports Invest UK (Kia Joorabchian company) represented Arsenal in Alex Iwobi’s £35m move to Everton.'

Maybe signed with assurances, who knows.

Also worth pointing that he signed April, Moshiri then appointed Benitez in June.

He wouldn't be out of a job long. Was even rumours United were looking at him.

Sounds like it's purely Benitez he didn't want to work with especially after the anger thrown at him last week.

Doesn't excuse the previous 3 years

Not sure many are saying he should have stayed. If he wasn't able to carry out what (we believe) to be his role, then he shouldn't be here. But what is coming out is that a lot of the pathetic decisions weren't him.

He needed to be sacked, but along with several others. For him and only him to be sacked shows he is being scapegoated when he was just a contributing factor to the overall problem.
He walked, didn't he? It's the first good thing he's done since becoming DoF.

I still think he wasn't making the decisions - and for that he can't take all the blame - but he was happy to sit there, earning the money. If you stand by while other people are doing wrong, then you're complicit.

it does if he's not allowed to do his job , I'm not crying any tears but it certainly seems as if he's been completely sidelined since pretty much day one. if you hired a builder to do you an extension then take a sledgehammer to it you can;'t really criticise the bloke for it being a complete mess. we're a joke , well except its just not funny.

But as others have said, maybe he thought he could sway members of the board etc and regain the control we believe his role should have. Once he realised that wasn't possible, he walked or was sacked (we don't really know, a severance package would indicate sacked in my opinion, or its hush money). Either way, several others need to follow him.

If the DOF role involved managing inside FFP then maybe that statement was not about spotting talent but but not contravening FFP rules. We just do not know at this point and maybe never will.

Assuming the above is possible it could be read as;

"[Brands] also repeatedly insisted that there was only budget to sign a defender on loan in 2020, but Farhad Moshiri signed Ben Godfrey on a permanent transfer instead."

Again, arguements over budget it's a distraction.

Godfrey was scouted by Brands. We needed a CB. It's a decision to either buy or loan one and Mosh sanctioned a buy.

To suggest his hands were then tied for this year (our spend doesn't relate to our performances this year) there's no excuse for the previous 3 years and lack of decisions in other positions.

Key one - full backs.
Well documented Brands was a huge admirer of Kenny and didn't invest in a right back. Then the whole Dumfries thing this season is far too late.
Left back. Who sactioned Nkounkou to go on loan?

So Brands wanted him then? And Mosh decided to get him as we were a CB light.

No issue from me.

….no, that’s not what its saying. Brands advised against because funds were not available. We were in a mess re FFP yet Moshiri brought him in anyway which is a big concern.

Seems most of things Brands was getting blamed for were misdirected. Perhaps he can be more accurately blamed for what he didn’t do.

No but any competent builder would say “I don’t want to be associated with this shoddy work” and walk away not agree to carry on watching you ruin any good work they were trying to do.

And now we are in financial trouble.

I'm not sure how that is a good thing mate

He signed a knew deal and was brought on to the board.

If he was being sidelined or not allowed to do his job, he wouldn't have signed a new deal or accept a role on the board. Simple.

Unless he was just milking us for a payday, which is what is being alluded to

Laughng at poeople falling for the Brands' spin that the failure has put in place since being put in the bin where he belongs.

Here's one of the gems he fed the Echo's Kirkbride: he wanted Dumfries in the summer...when we all know we didn't have a pot to piss in and he himself had underlined that the cupboard was bare.

Then he spins away that Iwobi was down to Moshiri...even if it was true what does that tell you about his ability to be his own man...to constantly be *undermined* and then to accept another 3 year contract to be undermined for longer?

An utter charlatan from beginning to end.

Good luck at your new job - which should be laying cones for Go Ahead Eagles if his talents were being maximized.

Also if he’s signed a decent winger himself earlier in the window the situation would have been averted. Gray for £1.8 million or Iwobi for £30 million, highlights his failings!

...and no RB for 3.5 years...all down to Moshiri.

FFS anyone falling for this desperate Dutch divvy's words need their heads feeling.
