Marcel Brands

So for three years he just sat back and took being over ruled and then signed a new contract?

I have yet to see one credible piece of evidence that it is true, however, there is so much chatter about it now, most repeating what others have said, that it becomes the truth overnight

Yep.

But even if it's true...it's even more reason for him to go after taking the club for a ride for years.

Too much victim blaming on him here.

There was always going to be a point that the purse was to be tightened. Been on the cards for 2 seasons (the Esk been threatening it for a while).

So the signing of one CB is being used as the catalyst for our financial issues to defend Brands being undermined, I don't buy

No I agree we shouldn't be focussing on any individual deal, but I do think that last year's summer window under Ancelotti where we signed Allan and James was a big mistake. If James was genuinely on like £10m + per year, then that was a ludicrous piece of business for a player who has questionable commitment and can't keep himself fit.

You have to look at things in the round, but when you spend extravagantly there comes a point where the answer should be no to buying more players. Unfortunately we got to that position too late and now have a sqaud full of overpaid rubbish.

Glad he has gone , getting away from the transfer situation.
The club hasn't moved forwards at all ,underneath the first team either, can't think of a time as an Everton fan there has been so little coming through the ranks , and when you watch the kids in the under 23's the football is dire most of the time, rigid system , no expression, which personally I would encourage, rather than play for points.
I can't think of one area this club has done better in , since Brands has been involved,(maybe the non football charity side, but that's more than likely nothing to do with him) so why keep him?
Kenwright needs to go as well , same reason , offers nothing going forwards.

Then he spins away that Iwobi was down to Moshiri...even if it was true what does that tell you about his ability to be his own man...to constantly be *undermined* and then to accept another 3 year contract to be undermined for longer?

Can see the logical truth in that take given that Moushri and his boss were Arsenal men while iwobi was there!

That's nonsense. Loads of supporters bought into him and wanted him to be given more control. It was evident that he wasn't being allowed to do his job.

I was one of them. My main issue with him was that no credible DoF would spend 30m on Iwobi. Based on information coming out in the past day or so, it looks like he didn't sign Iwobi and it was done over his head. This just underlines that he wasn't given an environment in which he could do his job.

And how reliable is that information?
So there are now two options.
He signed dross.
Or he never signed dross. But his job description was director of football and was happy to go along with decisions he now all of a sudden wasnt happy about.
Alex iwobi was 2 and a half years ago. If he was undermined as a director of football he hasnt half sat on it for a long time.
Maybe. Just maybe. And whisper it. He wasnt very good.

I’ve said he’s the fall guy and the least to blame but this has been bugging me and it’s turned me against Brands.

If he knew after 3 years that he wasn’t going to have free rein then he should not have re-upped. He was just taking money at that point.

He knew who FM and BK were by then. They weren’t going to change. Scorpion and the frog and all that.

Lack of character.

I originally defended Brands because of the FFP mess he inherited and the state of the squad. Also injuries completely blighted us meaning we couldn’t sell Tosun when we wanted to Bolasie etc. and we had to buy the likes of Docuoure and Allan because Gbamin and Gomes effectively were rendered useless through injury.

I thought he was navigating us through a financial fair play tightrope. The contracts of the 17/18 squad were not being renewed, and one by one they were rolling off the squad list to be replaced by better players for cheaper.

Then he renewed Michael Keane and the wage for James rather than being the 90k we thought at the time was perhaps 200k, a figure that we couldn’t afford a season later. We’ve also shown a complete mismanagement of the Moise Kean situation and the inability to solve the right back problem. As time has gone on as well it’s become clear that he’s made no progress on improving the conditioning side of the operation, the scouting and recruitment, or the academy.

The final nail in the coffin is Moshiri obviously doesn’t trust him to select new managers.

Abramovich used to be similar, meddling all the time at Chelsea, buying Shevchenko for the manager, picking new managers. Then Emenalo and subsequently Granskaiova got control of the operation and manage Abramovich properly.

Brands wasn’t strong enough as a DOG and couldn’t earn Moshiri’s confidence to let go of the train set. Simple as that.

He clearly didn’t walk. He was “ approached by our Chairman on Friday” , and then the negotiations for payoff etc began .
He says .
"The board and I agreed that there is a clear difference in the vision and direction for this beautiful club and, with that in mind, the decision was taken.”

While he made many mistakes he at least appeared to have an inkling of a vision and knowledge about football.
Does anybody really think that suddenly all our woes are over and that Kenwright and the rest of the Board have a different and better vision and direction than Brands?.
If he was the only football savvy operator on the board then we are in a perilous position right now if what is coming to light is true.

An owner that is treating the club like an expensive version of Pro Clubs.
A Chairman who has overseen decades of failure.
A CEO who has a background in in the charity sector and higher education.
A manager who using an evidence base is not competent and seemingly has personality issues that may harm the club. He looks to have wrestled control of the transfer budget too.

Everton that!

Incompetence from our lawyers for example would have had Ancelotti walking out the door for free....but with the club under the impression that there was a clause in there entitling them to compensation.

There was no such clause, because Ancelotti wouldn't sign a deal that featured such a clause. Moshiri then went ahead and employed him anyway.

That's not incompetence by lawyers, that's our owner acting like a total naif.
In fairness, our lawyer is probably Usmanov’s cleaner.
