Marcel Brands

Iwobi was on holiday in Dubai
We were on the last day of the transfer window
Moshiri clearly wanted to 'make a splash' with a late signing as the window had been average at best
Arsenal connections and Kia Joorabchian, his best man involved.

Surely that's enough
I mean there's definitely some indications in there but by no means no guarantees that it was 100% Moshiri.

For all we know, Moshiri says to brands... "I was speaking to my mate at Arsenal who thinks we could get a quick deal done for Iwobi".

Brands says yes. Manager in charge says yes.

We just don't know how it went down.

Therefor shouldn't be pushing this narrative like its gospel, without proof.

Dangerous.
Silva stated "Alex was one of our main targets for this window". And that "Alex fits exactly the profile of player I want." So an extra person in the mix as well.

Strawman argument if ever I've seen one, the echo is unreliable so therefore it must be a lie right? Even if looking in from the outside, it's plainfully obvious it's a Moshiri signing.
Sure why not?

Just like 'Moshiri used to be involved with Arsenal, therefor it must be Moshiri and not Brands (the DOF)'.

Same thing.

Had to go. Its one of two things, and either way had to go.

If he is/was responsible for the players signed, then he had to go since most of them have been appallingly bad and no coherent strategy or plan.

If he wasn't responsible for the players signed, then he has to go as otherwise what is the point of having a DOF who doesn't sign the players. He should have held firm and said no, or walked. Its his name on the door so you cannot have it both ways.

No loss, move on.

Very interesting... all those who are piling the pressure on Moshiri for his Iwobi signing need to take a minute to establish the facts.

Don't be ridiculous.
If Brands told them he had no involvement with the Iwobi deal, they'll have checked with their legal dept if printing it would see them liable for claim if the club were to utterly refute it.
They might even have got Brands to sign a document stating his claim of no involvement.
It wasn't an interview with Brands. It was off the record and in the vein of "it's understood".

Safe as houses.

Don't know how to word this. Whilst I feel a bit "bad" for him, it's clear he had nothing to do with just about anything at the club. That said, he shouldn't have signed that contract extension if he wasn't able to do his job.
Yes, he has to bear his share of the blame. If he couldn’t, or wouldn’t, influence the board to buy into his vision for the club then he should have left a long while ago. Nothing will be fixed by his sacking since the main problems still persist and it has no bearing on performances on the pitch.

Only a loss if he succeeds in his next role

Suppporters rarely know the full story about the different relationships at a club and I certainly do not know what the relationship was between the various power brokers at Everton.

We certainly know of some players like Docoure and Godfrey who were Brands signings and there certainly seemed to be players who were signed by different managers.

If Brands did have any significant say in the hiring of managers and the recruitment of players then he probably should have left the job of his own accord earlier.

Above all I think that the lack of young talent signed for the academy and signed for the first team is very disappointing and he certainly takes blame for that.
I think Jarrad Branthwaite is possibly the only young player signed in the Brands era that offers hope for the future... and goodness knows there was enough money being spent so a lack of funds is not an excuse

Do you really think Moshiri was arsed in the least if Brands wanted him or not? I don't even want to defend Brands cos he was responsible for some terrible signings but I do believe Iwobi wasn't his doing.
If Iwobi wasn't his doing then he should have walked for being undermined. Sounds like (if true) he didn't have the balls for the job and was walked all over but STILL he stayed and joined the Board.

Surprised too see alot defending him on twitter, he was not fully to blame but he should not be free from criticism. One new person to replace brands will not solve the problems. We still need to see more changes

Kenwright next hopefully. Moshiris mentor and ear piece. " I used to go in the boys pen and I am the Greatest ever Evertonian, I will guide you on your new journey Mosh, you can't go wrong with all my experience"

THIS. A thousand times.

When Brands came in we were led to believe we'd start to acquire young talented players from outside the clubs usual scouting channels.

Instead, Brands got mugged off by Barcelona for two rejects they didn't want in Gomes and Gbamin, bought the flawed Moise Kean and handed out the six figure free agent contracts to the likes of the hobbit Bernard.

Even Branthwaite, great prospect that he is, doesn't really go into my "positives for Brands" column. Jarrad was in the first team at carlisle already - did we really hire a former PSV DoF to find a six foot five lad already in the football league playing a hundred or so miles away? You'd hope not.

Nkonkou is the sole Brands signing that fit the brief we were sold. Three plus years, one prospect - it's an extremely disappointing return.

No-one can fully know what his remit was, or who he was responsible for bringing in to the club. I'm sure we'll get a better idea of that when he's interviewed in a Dutch football rag. There's no doubt he wasn't responsible for ALL our guff signings, as various managers are equally as culpable as him.

I'm glad he's gone though tbh as his role just seemed to reek of tokenism.

I certainly hope others follow him out the door , as he isn't the only one to blame for our failures on the pitch. It looks like he is being made the sole scapegoat in all of this and that cant be allowed to happen.
