Marcel Brands

I've had doubts about Brands for some time now, but the last month or so has really shown him to be worse than useless. Enough has been said about the lack of cover at both full back positions, but let's look at other matters:

Youth Development. Our Under 23 team is 13th out of 14 and our Under 18 team is 14th out of 14 according to last week's Burnley programme. Precious few youngsters are knocking on the door of the first team, and we seem to buy youth players for quite substantial fees only for them to be released a few years later. Why a proven managerial failure such as Unsworth is permitted to run the Under 23s is a mystery to me.

Transfer strategy. What is it? We've had a succession of crap managers, and all of these have combined to leave us with an unbalanced squad with far too many players receiving very high wages for nothing at all - James, Delph, Gbamin, Iceland, etc etc etc. Is Brands a Director of Football? What exactly does he direct? I know that some of the wasters arrived here before his time, but a good many have come here under his "directorship".

Even the women's team is bottom of their league!

Awful quiet over in this thread. Suggest a few blues direct their discontent over at the main source of our recent failings. Can also strongly recommend the Moshiri thread.

Our fanbase are by and large clueless mate always have been.

We were being driven into the ground by Kenwright yet they all clapped him like seals.

Carlo was wizzing down our legs telling us it was raining and they were singing his name

Brands has thrown money around like a drunken sailor yet he's the "architect" and its Benitez's fault he has no RB or LB cover, a half fit CF cover for DCL and one injury in midfield away from kin Tom Davies.

We get what we deserve.

The job is just far too big for him. He is quite simply out of his depth and he should never have been offered a contract extension.

I am actually quite concerned with how far we may slide with him still making decisions.

That is also a fair point. Top teams like Utd, Chelsea and City (even the RS) are bringing through good young players into the first team. A club like Everton should be offering promising youngsters a path into the first team.
Maybe we shouldn't be hiring managers who only want "experienced" players and go for a manager who would be willing to trust youngsters?

Bigger fraud than Steve Walsh this feller.

No RB cover for a player who's old and always injured

No LB cover for a player who misses spells ( gone from digne nkounko and small to just one )

No striker cover for DCL, just rafas mate rondon who' can't run

Pickford cover has gone from a half competent Olsen to a wardrobe in goal.

Letting our only truly gifted creater go and hasn't replaced him either

What a totally useless man

he isn't making any decisions

Now, I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing. He either can't do his job or he isn't being allowed to do it as he wants to. Either way, he's basically now a spare part.
