If there's anyone who still doubts the view that the DoF role at Everton isn't a massive calamity they should read that Paddy Boyland article in the Athletic.
The club is a shambles in recruitment alone.

To me it looks like that article (amongst many other damning things levelled at him) is saying that Brands has been sidelined by managers and the owner and Kenwright from first team recruitment and has busied himself instead with making an utter nuisance of himself at other levels oif the club with U23 and youth team affairs.

Interesting that seemingly Kenwright has influence on English players, Brands on foreign players and Moshiri on players of certain agents. No secret so that since he’s been here he’s probably had a major hand in bringing in the likes of Digne, Mina, Doucoure, Allan and probably Richy but Silva would’ve played a big role in that.
Away from that though it does seem to absolve him in a way on the purchases of Iwobi, Delph and others. Obviously Brands isn’t without blame or perfect but it’s very clear to see by that articles own admission that he only has so much influence and when given the chance he’s largely got it right.

Just read the article and found it pretty interesting. Although it probably didn't tell us much we didn't already know. There are far too many people involved in the decision making process at the club, and no one is quite sure what their personal remit is.
That's why I've never been a fan of the DOF model. It creates too much ambiguity and strands of responsibility and no one is quite sure what their role covers. At least with the old system of a manager running the entire football side of a club, you knew exactly who was accountable.

If this were really the case, then why was he handed another 3 year contract?
The club obviously feel as though he's had more hits than misses when it comes to the players he's identified himself.
