He needs to be handed this season as a laboratory chamber. It'll be frustrating seeing some experiments fail, but he needs to be allowed that time to get his method across and another couple of windows for more incoming players he sees fit to carry out his instructions - especially defending.

Yes, we'll all grumble when things dont work out - and we have every right to do so because it's natural for fans to react that way. But he cant be undermined.

He'll get the time and we'll be sound long term Dave.

I hope so mate. I have belief in Silva. This zonal marking is fast becoming a cosh to beat him with. Fact is though that we've been hopeless at set piece defending for years. We might as well allow this manager the chance to get Zouma and Mina in there and see if they can make it work for us. He has a plan and he needs patience. We are unbeaten still and that counts for something.

Yeah mate gonna take time and a bit of pain and frustration.

He's the right man though.

Small steps and short term pain for long term gain imo

But it isn’t. You’re denying something that is clearly on tele for all to see. There was booing after the match and frustrations are starting. That happens when you concede the same type of goal, over and over again, without learning from it. Drawing to the worst team in the league doesn’t help either.
The booing was directed squarely at Huddersfield for their dour, time-wasting tactics and the ref for his acceptance of them.

The zonal marking thing is a bit weird and I don't agree with it. But the players, especially Holgate and Tosun are making basic errors repeatedly. Players should be able to attack the ball and should sense danger. Holgate today was stood centre of the goal on his heels. That's just bad defending regardless of system. The lad can't win headers full stop. It would be no different man to man.

Crackers this, For the majority, me included, I see this year as a year to achieve some stability, playing style and cohesion, look to put foundations down. There are going to be disappointing performances and results, we know the squad is unbalanced, it’ll take time. Let’s not go overboard on when it’s gone well and say we’ve reached a new level and let’s not call for the managers head because we didn’t beat a team who provided defensive resilience that comfortably nullified our attacking options today.

Majority of new signings are unavailable for selection, each was bought to play a part in the first team, so the team we saw today wont be the one that I suspect will be starting come November. We need to keep perspective, we drew and we’re far from convincing. There will be other performances like this as we bed new players in and different ideas from the new manager. I wish we’d have won 5 0 but had we, and it was never likely, expectations would have been even more unrealistic as to where we actually are. Disappointing I know, but this will take time. Of limited consolation perhaps, it seems the errors of our summer madness last year didn’t reach the maligned board at West Ham. And, we may have dodged a bullet n not getting Yarmolenko!! Let’s see how we progress in the coming months when we see the players we bought actually contributing, then we may be in a better place to comment on whether we are going in a direction we all hope and indeed, expect. NSNO.
Perspective ...really....very patronising that.......imo you can spot great managers very quickly, admittedly Silva deserves time....however, worrying for me is...starting Davies...not making any sort of difference after half time.....his subs today.....and starting Davies

You wouldn't know it given the reaction by some, I'm glad next week is an international break, allows us two weeks to get Mina, Bernard and Gomes fit and ready, wouldn't be opposed Mina and Bernard getting a run out for the U23s either in the Checkatrade game at Bradford in midweek or in their next League game

Post-international break: these new signings need to be pushing strongly for starts. There'll be some criticism if they're still "two weeks off".

Mina for definite should be a starter v West Ham over Holgate, Bernard should come in over DCL on the left side, Gomes maybe impact sub initially then force out one of Sigurdssson or Walcott

So, we drew because Davies was selected by the manager and the decisions the manager made today when we were drawing didn’t produce the win we wanted? Perhaps we both agree that this may take some time, but laying the blame at Davies’ selection, really? Without being patronising, who do think should have played in his position instead? Dowell, Beni...change the formation to play two up top instead? He probably wouldn’t have started Davies if other were available, but like I’ve said, this team today won’t be the team he’d like to start as his strongest eleven. You know, Silva May even reflect on the substitutions he made, It’s what is going to happen. That ain’t patronising, it’s a fact.

Davies was not the problem, tbf I dont think he ever is. We played poorly as a collective team today, there's no point in singling out anyone. Silva had to start Davies, there was nobody else.

Who of the players available would you have started in central midfield instead? Because I can’t see a better option.

Being unable to breakdown team parking the bus has been a problem for 3 seasons.

When Gomes is fit he would be first choice but for now and especially after a good showing in the cup midweek Davies it is

Really hope he addresses the set-piece defending.

I know he won't but to have a few players act as man markers just to stop and block free runs would do the world of good.

Every corner we've conceded from has been from the same near post run and even Loser Klopp admitted they targeted our weakness at them.

This comment makes me think you have an agenda against Tosun. He plays well but gets overshadowed a bit by the speed merchants around him. I think he adds perfect balance to our attack. He may not score as many as the Ricki/Theo/whoever axis but he plays an essential part. What he isn't, in this league is an out and out goalscorer. He will convert a fair amount of chances, but his link play is very good, and compliments the others up front perfectly. I should imagine Silva sees lots in him besides goals. I think his place is determined by the goals being scored around him, not necessarily his own goals total.

Good start in the opening 2 games, and a much more enjoyable side to watch than last season on the evidence so far.

But he has to address the defending at set pieces. How can our defence just leave Ings free in the 6 yard box to tap it in.... The better teams will punish us if we allow gifts like that.

Made that comment on 19th August. 2 games later and points have been dropped in both games, and they weren't even "the better teams" that have exploited this. His attitude to this seems very Martinez like to me, and will probably be his undoing if things don't work out for him here. At this level, you can't gift teams goals, especially at the rate we are because if your attacking play isn't up to it, you don't win games.

That said, making predictions about his chances here does seem knee jerk and I do want him to be a success. He has shown some very positive signs as the new manager and Richarlison and Digne look like great additions, and Zouma should be an improvement too. Once he gets Mina in to this side, and a couple of others, we should have a better idea of how we will do.

7th has to be the target in his first season though, like with Koeman. We really need to start establishing ourselves as 'best of the rest' in the next season or two and be ready to break in among that top 6 in the next couple of seasons after that.
