This comment makes me think you have an agenda against Tosun. He plays well but gets overshadowed a bit by the speed merchants around him. I think he adds perfect balance to our attack. He may not score as many as the Ricki/Theo/whoever axis but he plays an essential part. What he isn't, in this league is an out and out goalscorer. He will convert a fair amount of chances, but his link play is very good, and compliments the others up front perfectly. I should imagine Silva sees lots in him besides goals. I think his place is determined by the goals being scored around him, not necessarily his own goals total.

His role is to defend the near post and the root of all our problems is losing the flick at the near post. He is constantly static. We need someone commanding to deal with it at source. If Tosun can't do it then the manager needs to choose someone else.

Post-international break: these new signings need to be pushing strongly for starts. There'll be some criticism if they're still "two weeks off".

Hopefully they will be.

But what's the criticism of? If they aren't fit, they aren't fit.

Mina has a foot injury. Is it worth rushing him back to just aggravate it again? I imagine he'll at least be in the squad v W.Ham because we don't have many options, but he won't be starting. He hasn't played since July 3rd.

Gomes too, is out for another three weeks, so he won't be back for West Ham. That's an injury.

Bernard should hopefully be in the squad.

Digne probably went off yesterday because he was looking a bit leggy - remember that's his first PL start. It's about managing the players and we have the squad to do it when players in the same position are fit.

Gueye was a big miss yesterday. As was Richarlison. It's bad luck - and other reasons for the red, obviously - that they weren't in the team.

DCL did it yesterday, and won everything.

The one he didn't win, he flicked on - and that's what they scored from.

That was a bad mistake from the lad tbf but it doesn't excuse the space on the 6 yards line. Three of their players lining up and our players pushed out.

DCL wins almost everything in the air but he needs to focus on getting it on target. There's a bit of hit and hope with him which doesn't need to be the case. He doesn't seem to realise how strong he is or something.

Not blaming him mate. Just saying, DCL was there instead of Tosun - probably for the reason you point out.

It needs sorting, 100 per cent.

But I don't think that goal yesterday was as much to do with the marking as the others have been, if you get me.

Anyway, we all wanted/expected 9-12 points.

We haven't got that.

We have been very close to having at least 10, though. If things had gone differently.

Stuff to be positive about, but there's lots to improve too. From management and the players.

Now, we have to kick on after the break. We need to get the points v West Ham, and really give Arsenal a run for their money.

The season is just starting yes, but if after the break these players are still "2 weeks off" then that's cracking on for October before we've had any benefit from them...at that point I'd question the wisdom of bringing a clutch of players with injuries in.

Yeah whats the point in having players for 8 months.

lollollol

It’s far from perfect, and the zonal marking thing is driving me to distraction...

But it’s certainly a pleasant change to look at the game, the style of play, set pieces etc and feel like you can see that the players have actually worked on something specific in training

He needs to be handed this season as a laboratory chamber. It'll be frustrating seeing some experiments fail, but he needs to be allowed that time to get his method across and another couple of windows for more incoming players he sees fit to carry out his instructions - especially defending.

Yes, we'll all grumble when things dont work out - and we have every right to do so because it's natural for fans to react that way. But he cant be undermined.

I appreciate what you stated Dave but me, I am still fuming that we could not beat this "championship" side.
