It's not him, it's the role. For me the manager has to be the decision maker on all aspects of the playing side of a club. Obviously it will depend on size of organisation. I wouldn't expect Man Utd or Real Madrid's managers having complete control. Even Fergie relied on Kenyon/Gill. For Everton though, that should be manageable...as it was for Moyes/Martinez. DoF is a spare arse part of a job at a club this size. I mean, WTF does Brands do outside signing players? He cant even sell most of the ones he has to get off the wage bill....and he doesn't "do" January windows!
Thanks for an honest appraisalI didn't hate AVB but the football was boring. Bale at (or close to) his peak gave our results an air of respectability. I will always be grateful to AVB (and Clint Dempsey) for getting our first win at OT in decades.

The stats don't lie..
So you believe they were planning to keep him if he finished 7th or higher but decided to sack him as he just finished 8th?
no
he was sacked either because they always planned to sack him OR because he was despised by the fans and the football was shocking. or a bit of both
not because he finished 8th, and its silly to suggest this
Yes he was employed to do a job, which he duly did, yet it was the results after that and the direction of the club as a whole which rightly caused him to be axed.If he finished 7th or higher there is no reason to sack him because he delivered results. For me if a manager can deliver results I don’t care if the football is dull or not.
He was despised by the fans because he is BFS. He was employed to put the fire out and he did his job.
Oh right ok then avb was obviously clueless...
Jeez

Obviously results are hugely important but on the other hand we're there to be entertained. Did you sit through Sam's games? Did you feel the atmosphere?
I've been going to Goodison as a STH for decades and try my best to be calm, reasonable and objective about it; nevertheless, Sam sucked the joy out of it!
Imagine how good you must be to sack a manager with a 55% win rate.I didn't say that, but you have this massive hard on for the guy. He's not been a success in this league with either Chelsea or Spurs. FFS, Spurs sacked him for Tim friggin Sherwood.

What dreams are made of
And we are just fabulous...
