Gardening leave is normally equal to the required notice period when an employee leaves - 6 months on a two year contract seems extraordinarily long, I'm not so sure that's even at all likely, but obviously it will be in writing.

Highly unusual to have so long - not too sure that's just clubs press release wanting to signal their opposition more than actual terms

I just couldn't see that being at all practical as it may well deter any future ambitious applicants to Watford too

It's as much how they're seen to act as it is how Silva does

Both will affect in some way what comes afterwards

For me its empty threats and promises as it just wouldn't work for Watford as much as Silva they would be damaging themselves just as badly.

I suspect it's mainly mere bravado saying they'll make it as difficult as possible than anything concrete and likely I'd have a thought.

Well same, but sometimes people just dont have an amount of money, sometimes its about pride.

These fellas from Italy are used to getting their own way, they own 2 top flight football teams and have just recently sold another, I cant imagine they are short of dough.

I agree it's about pride mate. And they probably might not need the money but they've also got to think silva wants to come here etc. My main concern like I've said I think this is last chance saloon for us until summer and If it doesn't come of we will look like bad divs and I fear for the remainder of the season

I honestly don't think its about the level of compensation. Its about us rocking the boat and trying to prise their manager away mid-season. Regardless of how they've pulled the plug on several managers over the last couple of season (or just given a one year contract etc), its their perrogative to say "no". Even if we haven't tapped up Silva and have gone through the proper channels by asking Watford for permission to speak to Silva, they have the right and the grounds to say no. VVD scenario springs to mind.
There's a way to conduct business, and we may have to move on. Fair enough. Nothing against Watford to be honest, they're just doing what they think is right for them.

We already look like Divs, approaching 4 weeks now.

It's a grey area surely?
Depends on who is making it public that we've offered a fee for him.
Mendes, is supposedly, a mate of Moshiri's so don't think they can use any meetings/calls etc, between them, as evidence of tapping up?
I mean directly asking Watford over and over again after they've said no. And we clearly would have to ask them directly.

Move on to unsworth as that what will happen if we don't land this guy and I do NOT want that.

Did we not go through a similar process with Stones and Chelsea as I recall?
