We sold Lineker from a position of strength when a great offer came in.

There are much more blatant examples of what you are alluding to.

If you got him then he “probably” would have given you stability, a plan, got your midfield working as they were last year and delivered exciting football. That’s what he’s delivered to date at our place

You think Dyche would come for 6 months? I doubt he'd leave Burnley for anything other than a multi-year deal with a club in better circumstances.
