If proven (which none of us know what’s happened, so hypothetical granted, then it could be points as well as a fine. And you can seldom afford to have those taken away at the moment. Unlikely to come to that but it’s also dangerous to be so carefree about the prospect too.
To my mind, tapping-up would mean approaching Silva to gauge his attitude before making a formal approach to Watford. I don't see where that has happened in this case.

Having said that I don't think it is very ethical to try and take a manager under contract to another club, unless they are prepared to consider an approach. Watford clearly do not welcome the approach so we should move on.

I think so Dave, Watford have indicated a sum of 50 mill would not wash.
Up to Silva now. He has to walk if he wants a move to a club like this. When all is said and done he wont get a better launch pad to the big time than this. If he does well here he can realistically look to a European elite club. Moyes got the United gig by winning f.a. for us!

I disagree, tbh. I think he's been told by Moshiri a deal will be done and to hold tight. The nuclear option does look now though like it's needed. That's probably why Silva has never committed publicly to staying at Watford.

Truly hope you’re right, but my faith has evaporated mate.

Marco will not resign.. Maybe everyone will think that i am crazy, but if Marco put Watford in top 8, seven place for example, that is completely possible, i think maybe Spurs will call him... I Think Mauricio will leave them in summer, maybe to real madrid... But ok, Everton in the summer have a lot of possibilities to get Marco...
If he could carry on in this vein for the rest of the season and maybe into next season he could also be on Arsenal's radar when Wenger retires. Lots of if's but's and maybe's there though. Timing is everything with these kind of things. Just as plausible is that a job like this (Everton) might not come his way again.
I agree he won't resign though. Lets see how it ends (hopefully soon because we can't go on like this much longer).

Now that all adds upto ?

To be honest mate, given Klopp sent about 400 texts to VVD and got away with it, Everton are not going to get any punishment when your manager has publicly stated there has been no contact.

The dilemma for Everton in this will be, pay a ridiculous fee for a manager for 6 months. Watford's is understandably to demand a ridiculous fee to do business outside of there preferential window to recruit managers. The two would have had to have matched up and I didn't think they would.

Everton (presuming they survive) will take stock again in the summer. It's precisely because Moshiri won't have told him to "sit tight" that I think Silva is going to continue in that role. He has clear incentive to continue to do well, not just to impress Everton but an array of other clubs. It is this incentive that is likely giving Watford the confidence to keep him, knowing the team will probably not fall apart.

This isn't me being wise after the event by the way. I have been saying for weeks, even when he was odds on favourite I didn't see this happening. I had a draft article ready to be sent saying as much, but didn't quite get it finished in time before Everton were said to have dropped their interest and it was out of date. I always sensed this would be one that is revisited in the summer.

Ultimately I think most Evertonians, and people within football underestimated Watford's desire to do business in the summer. Logically, to lose 10 million quid for 6 months is bad business. However Watford very much live and die by their managerial choices, and need to get them right, with the summer window being by far and away the best time to do business. It is almost priceless to that business model.

In many ways, objectively I hope he stays at Watford for a few more years. I think for Watford and for Silva it would be very interesting to see him develop a side. Knowing the previous approaches of both parties, I'm afraid I can't see it. I would also say, changes are afoot at Everton that I suspect will move quickly over the next 3-4 months, that will put our capacity to compete with the top boys up another gear.

I think Everton needs to go for another option... Marco is not available ah this moment... The question is what i said before... What type of solution? A manager for the next 2 o 3 years, or a manager until the summer...? I Think the current manager is not a option.... If i was the owner, probably at this moment a manager with Premier League experience, a oldest man that impose respect on the team...

I keep thinking of Custer when he said "where's all these Indians coming from"?
Never known so many fans from other clubs putting their bobs worth in, unbelievable.

Hopefully, Dyche has a similar view.

The same argument applies to Dyche as it does Silva.
They're both well thought of, and moving to Everton would give them the chance to prove themselves with a bigger budget.

It's the same reason Koeman left Southampton, he wanted a shot at a higher profile club. The fact that both Watford and Burnley both sit above us in the table is immaterial. If Silva and Dyche have any ambitions, then the Everton job is a logical step up.

But what do we do in the meantime?
