We need to make Watford a final offer and then move on.

I was a big supporter of unsworth but this can't go on.

If we can't get Silva give it to big Sam. Yes I fear it has got that bad. We can't continue to flirt with relegation and even Big sam will need time to turn this around.

However we need a new back 4. The current one isn't fit for a seniors league.

I get that mate. If there's a release clause in the summer though, which it has been widely reported there is, and would be consistent with most other managers you've had then they will lose a lot of bargaining power in the summer. I think they are happy enough with that, as the pool of replacements is bigger.
None of us fans are under the illusion we can keep Silva past June, he's just too hot a property but we are all confident Gino isn't about to let our season go to pot just for the price of a decent midfielder. Pozzo policy is always to replace before selling and unless there's a better candidate available it's unlikely to interest him.

I've been following Everton for 5 decades. Seen a couple of very close calls on being relegated and some very bad teams (firmly bottom half of table) too.
Can recall some very bad individual defenders and defending in that time too. But as a defence unit, and defensive strategy (in other words frontline to backline workrate) I think this season is the worst I've seen.
The thought of Martina Jags and Williams in the same back four for the next few games is making me want to vomit.

I think you have to look at the bigger picture. Any shortcomings at the back will always be amplified by the lack of a CF and a bloody awful midfield as is our current state of affairs, even if certain members of the defence have seen better days.

But the Pozzos will only let him go mid season if they have a replacement lined up....which they haven’t...so he stays

I like Everton, having had a school mate in Rickmansworth who was a die hard. Just feel that Silva would not be the man to turn this around....but what the fark do I know

Totally agree that there are shortcomings all over the pitch. Defending as a team ('frontline to backline') is worst I've seen.

I agree with you and I hope Moshiri moves on. Spent too long chasing Silva.

Silva wants the job mate. He's made lads like Cleverley look decent players, so I'm sure he'd do ok with our lot.

Watford understandably don't want to let him go. They won't let us have Silva out of pity, which appears to be the strategy of the board currently.
I don’t disagree his head is/was turned. To say he ‘wants’ the job though - I thoroughly agree he wanted it. No one can be sure he still does though given the past few days. Either way, he’s shown enough in the past week for us that he has the ability to put it to the back of his mind and crack on with things. Perhaps he’d have been happier to speak to you but I don’t expect he’s suicidal that he hasn’t. He seems happy enough to me. The difference with the Koeman/Saints thing, is Koeman expressed to his board back then that he wanted to go and forced Southampton’s hand as they no doubt didn’t want an unhappy manager. There has been no sign of that with Silva at all and our results since this all came to light show that - his reaction when we score shows that.

I’m saying genuinely straight down the middle with no agenda of us keeping Silva - if I was an Everton fan, I’d want my chairman to abandon this now and get someone to steer the ship in the next 24hrs and sort that out on the pitch. That man isn’t Silva. If this rumbles on for another week and you still don’t get him?! Can you really afford that?!?! I know you don’t want BFS so I’ll refrain from that recommendation and raise you LVG.

Why doesn't Silva just say he's not leaving Watford for Everton?
That puts an end to all this rubbish.

I agree with pretty much all of that mate. I said in another thread, Enrique, Garcia, Blanc and Hiddink are all out of work. You don't have to deal with another club mid season.

Silva is putting himself in the shop window. He is showing that he is available if anyone fancies a new manager especially in the summer.

What I get from the Pozzos is that it's all business. If they were certain that Watford were 100% safe, then they'd have your hand off if you offered a decent price for them to find the next guy and take their profit.

A 2 year managerial contract with an option to call it quits after 1 year seems to be the standard.

If I was Pozzo, I would be highly tempted to do the deal. Money in hand and still be fairly safe in the league to hedge against any disruption. But not totally safe which I think is the fly in this particular ointment.

If Marco wants us then it's up to him. A run of 5 bad games and no one will want him. Can he wait until Summer and take the risk?

From Watford's point of view cashing in at this point might be tempting but sets a wrong signal out that when the bigger clubs come run they will just roll over surrender

Pozzo's are very astute owners, would be very surprised if a bigger cheque would sway themThey had some massive offers for Deeney but refused

No release clause from what I've heard .
We need to make Watford a final offer and then move on.

Pozzo's have already threatened legal action if pursuit of Silva continues, how difficult is it to understand that No means No?

That puts an end to all this rubbish.

Because he’s a die hard red and enjoyed stringing you along?

Personally I reckon it’s because he wants to stay totally neutral and not be one of the “I’m committed to this club and want to be a part of it for a very long time” before leaving in May types
