Take it from a WFC fan, that isn’t true. Jokanovic asked for a 200% Pay rise and an extra year on his new contract - which would then be a 3 year contract, and our owners throughout their whole spectre of owning football clubs, have never offered more than 2. Now you may debate that the manager should get 3 years after the job he did - but he wanted to put himself on a contract that he was never going to get and wasn’t willing to negotiate. Did the owners use that to their advantage to get QSF? Definitely. But Jokanovic priced himself out first. Did the end justify the means? Sure, we stayed up. And QSF returned to Spain as he wanted - he was not sacked, he was homesick so exercised his escape clause. Then we got Mazzarri - his remit was to push us further up the league and he failed, whilst single handedly alienating the fans. He was never suited to the English game and refused to learn English full stop.

So yes, loyalty does work both ways. And we are definitely guilty of being ruthless, maybe beyond reason to some. The end has always justified the means however. There has been mitigating circumstances each time we have hired a new manager. All of the above has come from our Chief Executive at fan events and live interviews on national radio.

Anything contrary to that has come from the national press that you are saying not to believe now in your hunt for a new manager.

You can criticise our club for sacking managers, we fully expect it. Just thought it would be better to give you the facts rather than the stuff that sold papers at the time.

In all honesty though mate, you are a club who have openly stated you are not looking to keep managers long or even medium term.

I'm sure you can give a reason for each manager, but what it adds up too is managers either being moved on, sacked or resigning each year. The way you speak of Mazzari is odd too, a guy who ended up 6 points off 8th place. I'm not sure such a level of performance is worthy of the sack, especially in his first season.

We can debate the specifics but it's hard to argue the broader point that you look to turn managers around quickly. This is your stated aim. I'm surprised that you have stood in the way of Silva, particularly given we have offered 2.5 times the value of his contract.

Doesn't look like this is going to go ahead. £10m bids failing. We're just going to end up keeping Unsworth for the foreseeable future.

Be patient...the Watford owners are probably in talks with Silva's replacement - might take a few more days or even a week or so. Silva will want to leave Watford before they play Man United & Spurs.

Anyone else not wholly convinced by this guy? Is the only reason we are desperately chasing after him because there's nobody else available?

There must be somebody else available? Surely
Yes, me. I have not given up hope, for a top shelve manager. It's important. Because Everton is inportant.

I don’t disagree with us openly moving managers on, just that there have been reasons why. The way I speak of Mazzarri may be odd to fans of other clubs. We were 6 points off 8th - correct. But we finished 17th and were in free fall. I have no doubts if the league was a couple of weeks longer, we’d have gone. He was openly given certain remit’s to remain in the job - better style of play and vitally, to learn English and connect with the fans. He refused. He also fell out with a lot of players who began to criticise him. He had no backing whatsoever to continue in the job and he made that bed himself.

As for the surprise of us turning down 2.5x Silva’s salary as compo? We don’t need the money. At all. Sure there may be a figure where it becomes tempting but it’s nowhere near £10m given the money on offer in the game for various achievements. Arsenal turned down £60m from City for Sanchez with just 1yr left. I doubt Sanchez makes £60m in a year from his contract. The fact is the compensation figure will have very little to do with length of contract or his current wage - unless there was a release clause, which there isn’t.

Like you say, you’ve heard all this before as regards to Saints and Koeman. So we’ll see. All I can say, is we are increasingly confident of keeping him.

Yes.
I'm resigned to nowt happening in the foreseeable regarding getting a permanent appointed sorted.
It's Unsworth now for the rest of the season with a remit to get to 40 points, hopefully well before the last fixture.
Best of luck David, and for the rest of us, hold on tight!
