Bascombe:

Watford are seeking compensation from Everton so it may yet cost £8 million to settle differences with the Vicarage Road club, who reserve the right to pursue a Premier League complaint for an alleged illegal approach to their ex-coach dating back to before Silva’s sacking in January.

Load up the pennies. All 800 million of them.
lol

Before Wenger came to Arsenal he'd only won 1 league in France and a cup and a few cups in Japan and he's seems to have done OK here. Silva has won a few leagues and a few cups he was just unlucky to get Hull and Watford I cannot see Wenger would have done much with them either.
Tin hat on.

Wenger aside (so i don't think football will ever see a Ferguson / Wenger manager again), for Watford last season my memory was they were playing attractive attacking football and had an organised defence. it was like they'd transformed preseason from how i remember them the previous season.

Upto Dec 2 i.e. before all the nonsense start in public at least, Silva's record was P 15 W6 D4 L5. The P15 included Win against Arsenal, Draws with RS and Spurs and losses to City, United, Chelsea and us. So i reckon that's a Europa League place trophy performance record. i'm guessing for all he talks about Champions league that Moshiri would be happy with Europa league consistently for next few seasons.

He almost pulled off a miracle with Hull in almost impossible circumstances.

So while he isn't a marquee manager, i'm behind him to get us back into Europe at least (not saying much like because we finished 8th with horrible performances and miserable tactics all last season).

....i think it’s important not to look at these managers in isolation. Whoever comes in will be working in tandem with Bland and a lot is dependent on how that partnership works. They need to be like minded to ensure a joined-up, integrated approach to a playing strategy and recruitment of players.

The partnership is an unknown factor.

This is partly why I don't think most of the big names touted will take it. That and our current level. Hence we are looking at riskier young coaches who are used to this model.

My one moment of sympathy for Van Gaal came after it as Ed Woodward made his winning press conference all about his likelihood of getting sacked to be replaced by Jose!

Martinez also won a FA cup with much worse players and much more entertaining football, perhaps we should get him back if he does well at the World Cup ;)
Dave loves you lol

Whoever comes in needs at least a season to assess the squad and bring in New faces. As bad as Sam is/was no one could make our current squad finish in the top4 playing attractive football. Bringing in so many new faces at the same time ruined us. Particularly as they were no better than we already had
