Silva did pretty good prior to coming to the Premier League tbf - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Silva

Estoril - 27th Sept 2011 - 21st May 2014 - 116 Games, 54 Wins, 31 Draw, 31 Loss - Win Rate 46.6%

Won the Segunda Liga (2nd division) and got them Promoted to the Primeira Liga (top division)

-----

Sporting CP 21st May 2014 - 4th June 2015 - 53 Games, 31 Wins, 15 Draw, 7 Loss - Win Rate 58.5%

Won the Taça de Portugal Cup

-----

Olympiacos 8th July 2015 - 23rd June 2016 - 48 Games, 38 Wins, 3 Draw, 7 Loss - Win Rate 79.2 %

Won the Superleague (top division)

Impressive record until he came to the premier league here where his win rate then dropped to 36.4% (Hull) and 30.8% (Watford). Joining struggling mediocre clubs and getting used to the premier league will definitely have played a big part in the drop off. Who knows what he could do with a bigger club like Everton though where he has a better kitty. He is certainly capable of doing well as can be seen before he came here.

Wouldn't be my first choice and there is a risk but i wouldn't be gutted and would definitely give him the chance and get behind him. He would need to be given time though i think. So many problems here at Everton etc.

Ive been wading though some of the “stuff” printed about Silva ve the last couple of years and in particular trying to understand what heppened at Watford. Many of us seem to think it is evidence of a weakness in his ability when actually i think it may just be the opposite.
By all accounts he is a great man manager. Players like him. They want to play for him. He apparently creates a strong bond with his squad almost immediately. This is what happens when a leader has the extra factor. Not just a good coach BUT inspirational leader. Leaders like this appear in all walks of life not jus football. They make a difference. What they do create is a sense for the players who work with him of being “touched moved and inspired” by his vision and leadership.
Players believe in him. Their actions reflect his vision and belief.
So how the as t was the case at Watford do players react whe he brings them under his spell and then seemingly jilts them after 8 games or so for greener pastures....its a messy break up...
I think he is exactly what we need right now. Just as we ended a Sam like figure to pull us out of the thinkable we now need an Inspirational easer to pull us together
I think he may be it
The problem with that argument is that his record with Watford pre and post our contact is very similar.

And the problem with that argument is that it's not even remotely close to being true. At the point we're supposed to have made our first contact they had 15 points from 9/10 games (depending on exactly when we let him know we were interested), in the next 14/15 games before he was sacked they only got 10 points. There was a very, very clear drop off in form, that's undeniable; whether it was related to our interest or just a coincidence I have no idea.

Silva may turn out to be brilliant... or not.
Can we afford the risk ? Are we still at a place where we take on a manager hoping he will be great ?

When you look at the managers salary we offer and the money we spend on players I would hope that we could attract a proven manager that has ambitions to prove himself in the premiership.
Which managers are no risk mate that we could get?

We have to take a risk.
Since the promising 1st Martinez season we have been a cash splashing disaster, losing our 3 most coveted players in the process too.

If it is to be Silva then at least Moshiri has stuck to the notion that he was the manager he wanted.
Sweep the broom, new DOF, new Manager / coaches with a set style, and hopefully a coherent team will emerge on the pitch.

If he's coming in, I do want to know what his overall plan is and for how long.

All well and good the club wanting him. But id rather know what he wants to offer us.

If he is coming, they should announce it TODAY. He's not working and we could sack Sam whenever

Just to clarify I was talking about this in context of his defensive record on goals conceded which I acknowledge I didn’t make clear. I was using the BBC with regard to this https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42765881
Bottom line he conceded a similar amount of goals before and after with Watford. The goals scored fell slightly which resulted in them losing games they previously drew. His defensive record in the Premier League just isn’t very good.

EVERYONE is a risk. Wenger, Emery, Silva, Fonseca, hell, even Simeone would be a risk. Look at what we have in our squad, I can't even figure out what a manager could do to get this team playing well with this group.
