Marco Silva

..not sure about ‘transfer dealings being taken out of his hands’. By definition, it appears the Manager or DoF can generate a transfer but both have to sign it off before it happens.

Looks to me that he's been used to dealing with a situation in his career where decisions on type of players are taken and presented to him in the form of "which one in particular would you prefer if we can land them?".

No I think he’s better than that now mate.

He took over Hull after they were all but doomed and nearly saved them, was doing ok at Watford till we butted in, has PL and also has CL experience.

He took over Hull as they further weakened by selling their two best players. At the time across at Selhurst the Count was spending £30m working miracles to pull Palace away from danger.

I think he's a good fit and comparisons with Martinez are lazy.

I'll take Silva all day after Sam and Co, just want to see us attack and play some attractive football again. Fonseca or him have similar records, okay Fonseca has a decent CL campaign behind him, but tell me are we in it next year or look like challenging for it ? Whereas Silva has experience in our league, which will hopefully stand him in good stead and with better players than Hull or Watford and a much higher budget to play with be the right choice. Him and Brands could be our new dream team...I know... But whoever it is we need as a fan base to get behind them, we have been divided and disorganised for too long and where's that got us.

To a certain extent if you go for it more then you expect defensive frailties. We need to throw out anyone in the defence right now without pace. Baines should be shown the door at a minimum.
If it is to be Silva then as you say, Baines needs to be benched and replaced, Jags needs to be benched and replaced by a proper athletic centre half and put him next to Holgate and let them form a proper partnership. If Silva can bring in Matrinez's attacking flow and actually get us to defend when needed then we will have a very good manager on our hands. I'm warming to the idea

..I would hope he’s got an eye for a player himself. More specifically, I hope he’s got an eye for the type of players that fit the strategy he wants to play, and he’s been doing his homework these last few months to draw up a shopping list.

We are being linked with players. Be interesting if these are Walsh targets or players on a list provided by incoming personnel.

I don't love the appointment but I don't hate it!

I think profile-wise we can't attract Wenger, Blanc or Emery due to our last season's complete and total clownshow from the board to the pitch. Outside looking in, we look a joke.

Bigger named managers want to win and win quick. They don't want a project, they want it all in place when they get there.

For me, Silva or Fonseca, fit this bill of young managers with experience who want that move up and from Hull/Watford or Shakhtar, we are a great fit!

The biggest plus our new manager faces is the old guard are done for years I've seen managers go into a sqyad with a group that have been together for 3 or more years thinking they expect or have earned a place in the team ie Chelsea, Man U and Martinez at us.

Whoever gets the job can bin off the last of Moyes' boys like Baines, Jags and Mirallas plus cut out the subpar players like Williams, Martina and sadly, Rooney.

Players like this are a burden around the neck of managers so it will be very interesting to see a new era of football.

Just want it done now. I’d have hoped that Brands and Silva were waiting in the wings having already planned out what the summer looks like ready to hit the ground running. These talks of interviews with other managers over this week suggest that may not have happened. The transfer window opens shortly, we need to decide quickly on this and give the new man an entire pre season to prepare.

Silva and Fonseca are both very similar in styles and record, Silva has PL experience and is younger... I know PL experience doesn’t mean a lot but it’s would certainly help with us. Devided fan base, disconnects between fans and the club, he has the know how to rebuild us as a club. Fonseca would have to learn the PL while trying to sort the club out.

Sam Allardyce on brink of Everton exit

Sam Allardyce is set to leave Everton this week but the club’s interest in Marco Silva as his replacement is complicated by a continuing dispute with Watford, his former employers.

Allardyce’s departure after just six months in charge is likely to be confirmed after a meeting of the Everton hierarchy. The manager has become a target for supporters’ displeasure and there is a realisation that a summer of change must now play out to recover from an underwhelming campaign that has left the club divided.

Everton are keen to hire Silva, who was their target before Allardyce last November, but the situation is not straightforward because of the anger still felt by Watford over the events that led to the Portuguese coach’s dismissal in January. Everton’s offer of a compensation package of about £12 million was rejected by Watford, who then sacked Silva two months later after a downturn in results.

Watford released a statement saying that an “unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival” had effectively destabilised the 40-year-old and, as a consequence, their season. There remains an annoyance at boardroom level over Everton’s conduct.

It is still possible that Watford will seek a financial settlement from Everton and that means the process is complex. Silva has not received any compensation since his sacking and his representatives have been in touch with the League Managers Association.

That tangled scenario forms the backdrop to Everton’s latest managerial change. Roberto Martínez was sacked in May 2016, then Ronald Koeman in October 2017, with the interim manager David Unsworth stepping into the breach until November. Allardyce took 34 points from 24 league matches in charge, as Everton finished eighth, but his relationship with their supporters deteriorated over the course of a season that ended with a 3-1 defeat by West Ham United on Sunday.

Speaking on Sky Sports last night, Allardyce said: “Who knows what is going to happen next? The season is finished and I am going to have a meeting with Farhad [Moshiri, the club’s leading shareholder] this week and then I will go on my holidays.”

The club also have a meeting planned with Wayne Rooney’s representatives tomorrow after Everton instigated interest in him from the MLS side DC United. Rooney was angered by the move given the commitment he made when returning to his boyhood club last summer from Manchester United, and is waiting to see what role, if any, he now has in Everton’s future.

In addition, a replacement CEO is needed after Robert Elstone returned to rugby league, while Everton want PSV Eindhoven’s Marcel Brands to replace Steve Walsh as director of football.

Most kin positive thing I've read about us in years.

Allardyce going
Interested in a half decent manager to replace him
Walsh going
Rooney being punted out
Brand being targeted

If all that happens I will be down the Lisbon getting smashed (not having my back doors smashed in btw).

So this will go one of two ways. He will either fail miserably and get sacked, or he will be a success and quickly move on to a bigger club.

Either way, he'll be here two years max.

He's already shown himself to be incredibly disloyal.

...if he’s got a record of developing a good team as opposed to inheriting one; if he’s got a record of having innovative team selection and a playing strategy that creates chances and carries a threat against all teams; if he’s got a record of being astute in the transfer market and improving players then that’s the criteria we need.

Not sure if Silva ticks those boxes.
I think he possibly does tick those boxes Eggs. Richarlison and Ducoure were hus buys I think and the former hasnt been the same player since Silva left.

But he also ticks another box which is what concerns most of his doubters. Goals conceded.

Wouldn't be my first choice but I'd get behind him.

Why should he be classed as disloyal? He was at Watford who are a small club then us and have a habit of sacking managers and replacing them the same day.

He wanted to come to us, we pay big wages and have money to spend... it’s unlikey it will happen to us unless he doing really well

Doucoure wasn’t. Already owned by Watford but was at their sister club Granada on loan beforehand.
