Not really, no. What's there to be impressed by? None of it compares to what Silva or Emery have done.

Hull ended up in the Championship at the end of the day.

Watford got turned over by an Unsworth Everton team bereft of confidence and completely fell off the boil the second he was linked to us because his head got turned easy.

I hold what he did at Watford against him more than anything. If we sign him I won't be able to help feeling he's another Korman treating us as a stepping stone because we have already see him do it 6 months into a job.

That's the fella we're talking about.

Each to their own opinion mate. For me he made a clearly championship squad berefit of any chance of staying up a hugely competitive PL uni and was very unlucky not to stay up. What was the catalyst for change there Silva.

Equally at Watford, an annual just about staying up club who at times hit the CL spots when he was there, they improved remarkably as a club under his guidance, and have regressed since he left. What was the catalyst? Silva.

He's also built teams and spent time with them.

He got the PSG job, a huge job, on what he did with one of the smaller Spanish clubs (compared to Real, Barca, Valencia, Atleti).

To me, he'd be chomping to claim some respectability back.
Again, I'm not saying he's not a good manager or trying to downplay his achievements. I'm simply saying that some people are talking about him as if he's some sort of galactico who would make the whole world take notice and would be a virtual guarantee of trophies. He's got a good record, not a great one, and he's 'failed' (in terms of the expectation at somewhere like PSG) both times he's taken a job outside Spain. I certainly wouldn't be against his appointment, I just don't see him as being on an entirely different level to Silva - hence him not really being strongly linked with the vacancies at 'bigger' jobs.

I've just had a chilling thought....

For me he has shown glimpses of good potential working with some absolute atrocious players, None of them would get close to this squad and he still got some nifty results, He's a decent chance.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades for me.

He was at Watford for about 3 months of the season and you're taking about champions league spots... Where did he leave them?

TBF, we were probably offering him around 4x what he was on at Watford. Not sure how many of wouldn't pull a neck muscle ourselves, turning our heads with that kind of interest - regardless how long we'd been at a new employer. Plus, there aren't many other clubs who could offer him a multiple of what we'll pay. And if one does, then he'll have been doing one hell of a job for us at that stage.

Regardless of the job he's doing mate, would you really want to lose our manager 2-3 months into the season after said manager had only joined that summer?

Any good he'd done at that point would surely be erased by the chaos that would engulf us due to him leaving mid season and us having to scramble to replace him?

This is why I don't get the "He'll have to have been doing great with us to get a move!" argument being made about his flightiness

That makes perfect sense if he had an amazing season with us and then got tempted away at the end of it

It'd be disappointing sure, but not a disaster as we'd have ample time to replace him and we could build on the previous great season

But if he ducks out in October/November, it doesn't matter how great he's done for the first few months of the season because it would completely destabilise the team and undo all the good work in an instant, especially if his replacement looked at things different tactically and had to get the players essentially "re-trained" to a new style mid season

If it were me and I was having a good run at a club, I'd want to see it through to the end of the season and then weigh up my options once it was over. That's the sensible and reasonable way to behave in such a situation IMO, especially if you've literally only just arrived at your current club

Yeah he will have done great with us to have other clubs sniffing around, but that'll only make the fall even more bruising if he swaps horses mid race

His work as Estoril was pretty impressive, and has won trophies with different teams in different countries.

The stuff at Watford concerned me a little basically having his head turned, but, if he can come in get the team playing right and get some atmosphere going, then it should be a decent appointment.

Actually not as concerned about his defensive record, I reckon we have a big CB signing coming this summer.
