Marco Silva

From my Watford supporting mate (warning contains Home Counties patronisation):

“Silva is a ruthless/no nonsense chap but with a smart, attacking philosophy so you should get the positive elements of Martinez without the soft underbelly of a bad defence and over-passing. He is also the manager who has imposed his style onto a team quicker than I’ve ever seen. It obviously won’t pan out as nicely as I’m claiming but in theory Marco has a mighty fine blend. I’d even go as far as saying if Poch did leave Spurs for a bigger club (Chelsea/Arsenal/West Ham/Palace), Silva would be a good replacement. But Spurs wouldn’t go for him.
In short, I miss him. A lot.”

He is pretty clued up

That does describe Silva as well.

Really? Think when he took over Hull, not many people knew that much about him or had even heard of him. Whereas Fonseca seems to have made quite a name for himself. Silva won a Portuguese Cup at Sporting before going to Olympiakos and winning their League (they’d also won it the previous 4 years) to qualify for his one and only season in the Champions League. Finishishing 3rd and getting knocked out at the round of 32 of the Europa. Performed well?

On 31 May 2016, Fonseca moved abroad for the first time in his career, replacing legendary Mircea Lucescu (12 seasons) at the helm of FC Shakhtar Donetsk and signing a two-year contract at the Ukrainian Premier League side.[17][18] He won the national championship in his first two seasons, also winning the double in 2016–17 – which earned him the distinction as the league's best coach[19]– and reaching the round of 16of the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League[20] after finishing second in the group stage following a 2–1 home win over Premier League side Manchester City.

The description is quite different.

The fact that Watford fans still have good things to say about to him means a lot. He did not leave the team nicely, but they could see the talent he brought to their team. Hopefully he will be a little bit easier to work with here.

Great post, though even if Silva took the job and won a trophy, it still wouldn't change the minds on some of the posters here.

100% agree. He would have had at least one decent offer since then. Southampton were supposed to be looking for him but he didn't bite. Not a word from him either. All this talk of Watford seeking compo is bollix. We sacked Martinez and Koeman and got [Poor language removed] all when they both got jobs in few months. I would say Moshiri was mailing him the Everton DVDs from every game since he got the bullet. Alan Myers said on SSN that we were willing to pay upto 20m. You don't offer 20m and 6 months ltr turn it down for free.
Maybe the first second and third choice said no back then , maybe they wanted to honour their contract.
Maybe they are available now

I also have a Watford supporting friend who was pro-Silva. She was sad when he left.

and that probably sums up most fans opinion of every club hes previpusly managed.
Everyone of them would have him back in a hearbeat.

..where did Shakhtar finish in the seasons before Fonseca arrived? I’m interested if he developed his own team or did he inherit a good side.

And there’s more from the same source (I’m interested anyway):

“The only thing about Silva is that he hasn’t got a warmth that will make the fans like him. He’s got a bit of Mourinho’s Portuguese grumpywumps about him. But his clear, attacking style with the ball (a combination of carousel-like passing through midfield coupled with pace and directness) and a deranged urgency to win it back with smart pressing when you don’t have the ball should win the fans over.”
