The CB issues everybody saw.

But im not having the Striker issue, sure we knew Kean would need time to settle, but hes not settling on the frigging bench is he.
It's Sandro syndrome.

I've made no bones about the fact that I'd never seen Kean play before he came, but everyone told me he was amazing, 'one of the best talents in the world' so I was happy with the signing. Same as I was with Sandro. I did say that we might be asking a lot for an untried 19 year old to be our only real improvement in an attacking sense, but I was happy to take it at face value and believe he would be great. When he's played, he hasn't been. Like Sandro. But everyone keeps saying it's just the tactics/manager/other players. Like Sandro.

I'm not saying Kean will be a flop like he was, but all this talk of him being held back and ruined and deserving more chances is exactly what we heard about Sandro. And it was wrong. Very wrong.

If this report is true then the suggestion is that the board (Brands I assume) accepts that actually Kean isn't ready to be our main striker, and we may have expected too much of him. If that's the case, how can we complain about him being on the bench?

Sandros rep was "had one surprisingly excellent season out of nowhere with Malaga after doing very little to suggest he was capable of it before that". Not the same as a player who genuinely has been considered one of the best young talents in the game.

So I get your point, but I think the excitement around Kean and assumption he can contribute much more than he has been allowed to is fairly justifiable.

Yeah it's difficult to get the point across without rambling too much. I really don't mean to suggest Kean won't be a success, and i've said plenty of times that I can see a lot of talent there, but the truth is I've not really seen anything from him yet that makes me think he needs more starts. I can understand the idea that he can't do any worse than the others, but people talk about it as if Silva is unfathomably holding him back and I just don't see it.

Why do you think the hype is justifiable? Hasn't he scored just 7 goals in senior football?

If you start from the point of view that Silva does everything wrong in an unfathomable manner you can probably see it more clearly

Youngest ever goalscorer in a competitive game for Italy.
First player born after 2000 to score in the Champions league
Youngest ever debutant for Juventus
Scored 4 in Serie A for Hellas Verona when he was 17
7 For Juve when he was 18
Scored 6 in 6 for Italy and Juve last season too.

I believe the reason we did not sign a cb in the pre season was that they put all their eggs in one basket expecting to sign Zouma, and when it did not happen in time they had left it to late.

The problem is that we have 4 Strikers currently, 5 if you include Sando, but we found a home for him, for now.

I know people like to criticise Brands for his "failures", but I think its very unrealistic to assume we would "fix" the whole squad in 12months, so we are left with some players not fit for purpose. In the summer we bought an entire new midfield, Delph we know had his problems and Gmblammo and Gomes have suffered 2 pretty nasty and both quite freak injuries. I mean who has even heard of a player tearing his thigh muscle to bits by shooting in training????

I think thats the only mitigation the Board are using, that plus the VAR decisions.

As I said to Dave yesterday, we have had 2 DoF and 5 managers in the last few years, the squad when Brands arrived was a mess, we have added some quality, but we still have Snides starting games, we still have Tosun starting games. I was more than willing to give Silva lots of leeway, lots of time and I do feel a bit sorry for him, hes been very unlucky, but as McNulty says in his latest piece :

"Silva is not only losing games but he also fulfils the lines from the old Blues song saying that if it was not for bad luck, he would have no luck at all. It is a toxic combination."

So sure, he hasnt really got a Striker he can rely on, I can only assume Kean isnt doing enough in training? There must be a reason he isnt playing games, but whatever mitigation I can throw in his defence, the simply fact is that we sit 17th and thats not just down to bad luck.

So he hasn't played much football and hasn't scored many goals, but hes young.
Does this qualify him to be a regular starter in the PL? Not saying he won't make it. it's just that I don't get the hype on this relatively small amount of evidence.

If you can find me a striker of a similar age with similar goals to appearances ratio internationally and in a top European league then I'm all ears. He is all potential at the moment, but well worthy of being hyped.

its so frustrating. most fans will have patience for the changes needed and for a bit of mediocrity for a couple seasons. all Silva had to do was be average with some glimpses of promise and he would reach the 3rd season which would have been the make or break time. instead its all going wrong. i still don't know how he and the players managed to be that bad against Norwich when they would have known psychologically that a win would have eased the pressure a lot on the games in December.

Hard to judge this for me. I had never heard of him before he came, just thought it was a lot of expectation for a 19year old who was used to playing with vastly superior team mates.

I read on here he was world class, totally ready for the Prem. Well how's that one worked out. I hope the boy finds form for us and stays with us but it feels like Silva has a beef with him and he's not getting a chance.

Obviously that could be rubbish and he's just not as good as expected.

Yep, all he had to do was an average job, sure people wouldnt have been happy, but we always needed 5-6 windows to get the squad back on track, instead hes utterly crapped the bed.
