MARINERS FORGE PLAYER DEAL WITH EVERTON

There is absolutely nothing to moan about here. Yes, our academy players will probably walk straight into the first team, but they'll be playing competitive football in front of proper crowds. Definitely better for their development than playing occasionally in the Ressies league.

Having recently moved back to Australia after 6 years in the UK, I can also testify to the increased interest in 'soccer' over here. When I first moved here in the late 90s, football was very much a minority sport played only by ex-pats and European migrants. At my Sunday league team the few Aussies who played all trained in United or RS replica shirts. Me and my mate from Garston were the only two bluenoses in the league. At training last night there were 3 young lads all with Everton shirts on. Talking to them afterwards it was clear how much Cahill has done in raising our profile and we're seen almost as the cool underdog to support.

Can't understand the negative comments about this. It's all very Toffeeweb...

This thread just proves a lot of people are just looking for any excuse to moan.
Why is it moaning if you don't agree? For the record, it's called an opinion.

-People used to express their strong opinion about Cahill doing International duty here.
-it's too far away to keep an eye on the players.
-The A League standard is poor...Cahill wouldn't play in it.
-if they wanted "big game" exposure, there's at least three better clubs to choose from.
-If they want the kids to develop, sending them to a warm climate on the Sea is just great....

I don't think it is to far to keep an eye on the players in this modern age it is easier than ever to communicate with the internet and if the players need to return they will be back the next day also to development why is a warm climate by the sea a hindrance? ajax and Barcelona come to mind granted Ajax isn't that warm

the cahill thing is just pure speculation

I'm not sure why they chose that particular club and not the better teams in the league maybe so they could get guaranteed game time

Surprised at how negative some of the feedback is here, Central Coast have developed some quality players over the last couple of years namely Matt Ryan of Club Brugge (Belgian Pro League Keeper of the year x2 and still only 22) and Trent Sainsbury who is a young quality CB playing in the Dutch Eredivisie that is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, starred for Australia in the Asian Cup and only just 23 .. It's still a very new league and is improving each year, If we manage to find one or two that make it and at the same time give our kids first team football in another country (which can be really important for their maturity) then from an on field perspective it's gotta be beneficial. From an off field perspective and a commercial perspective it's a no brainer there's a reason Man United, The [Poor language removed], Man City, Real Madrid, Roma etc. have all committed to coming out here recently ... But I'm a biased Aussie Evertonian and like the idea of seeing some of our academy players out here and also wouldn't mind seeing a few more blue shirts in the pubs in the early hours of the morning, too much red for my liking ...

Matt Ryan - looks a decent keeper, and as you say only a youngster. One to watch Bobby!

Ccm is a fantastic place to develop and also get access to some god young talent.

Mat Ryan, Trent Sainsbury, Mile Jedinak, Mustafa Amini and Tom Rogic have all come through the club.

You don't see the whole picture over the internet. You don't see the set up play, how the player is reading the play...it's very different to being there & watching the events unfold.

Yes, they can be back the next day, but assuming jet lag doesn't hit them for six, they aren't going to be overly productive immediately.

Warm climate by the Sea + young kids + no parents/official supervision...party on dude!

Of course it's speculation. Everything on here is speculation. You're not claiming to be ITK are you?

There is only positives from this agreement from where i sit. Everton havent really commited much at all in 2 u21 players a year. If they're arent good enough to play for the Mariners they probably will be struggling to play for the Everton Senior team in the future. If they succeed at the Mariners they would gain lots of confidence and it would be a great for them as people to go to the other side of the world and live by themselves and get out of their comfort zone. Im sure it would be much better playing and training in Gosford than in dreay Liverpool.

Commercially, given time, Australia could be our USA. Excellent move...sort of move you'd expect from one of the top twenty clubs in the world, commercially.;)

Quite a good point mate. If it ever kicks off down under (financially) then we already have a foot in the door. I personally can only see their league getting stronger. I can't speak for the standards in the A league at this time. I'm sure there are many on here who could do that for me. You never know though. The next "insert name here" could be a member of their squad. Worth keeping an eye out I reckon.

A league games are televised mate. The youth coaches could easily follow the development of the players, just as they do when they go to Grimsby or wherever. There's also an element of trust in the coaching staff of the club the players are loaned to, whether in Australia or in the UK.

Yes, they can be back the next day, but assuming jet lag doesn't hit them for six, they aren't going to be overly productive immediately.

Since when have youth players coming back from a loan go to the 1st team the next day?

Personally I think it's a better option than loaning our youngsters to League 1 teams in the UK. For every Osman at Derby there's a Barkley at Leeds situation. Plus, as has already been stated, 'soccer' in Australia is growing at an amazing rate. It's a great opportunity. The window-cleaners have already got Melbourne City, we complain about our board dithering all the time, good on them for doing something constructive

Perfect timing - just turned on Fox Sports News and there was a nice feature on the deal between Everton and Central Coast Mariners. The presenter said that 'Premier League club Everton will be well known to Australian soccer fans as Socceroo Tim Cahill scored 68 times during his spell at the club'...followed by a montage of some of Tim's best goals. Makes a change from seeing stuff about United and the RS...

I love your chain of reasoning in how you turned that one round on me, make a claim about Cahill with no evidence to back it up then accuse me of being a wannabe ITK because I question it's legitimacy.

if they can be distracted by grains of sand and a bit of sunshine then I doubt they have the right attitude anyway.

To answer your first point why would it be any different to if the players where playing over here, we will have people over there watching them and I doubt Martinez goes to watch our players that are on loan. Unless you are suggesting we just don't loan players at all and keep them in the U21's it doesn't have much relevance in this situation

Australia just get the winner of Asia Cup
A-League is growing and get more people attention
Also Man City have linked other club with partnership
