MARINERS FORGE PLAYER DEAL WITH EVERTON

I think the A League is quite watchable nowadays...a damn sight more so than it was even 3-4 years ago. And the crowds (ex Wellington Phoenix) are also well on the up.

CCM are a small club but seem to be well run and as noted earlier have produced plenty of talent already.
Apparently there are now more junior footballers in Oz than in England. Also, the FFA here have had a structured coaching system in place for a few years now. So, you would imagine that in a few years, Oz will start producing a lot more young talent.
I think that this is a smart move by Everton. I just hope they follow up on it.

As a glory fan I love watching de silva his first touch is brilliant to watch. However he is still finding his way in the game and not always a certain starter for the glory. He drifts in and out of the game to much to be anywhere near prem standard. He will get there one day but not not yet.

This still doesn't really make any sense to me. I'm not sure what our young players get out of it as the standard of the league is poor. I don't really know what the Mariners get out of it because a couple of 17 year olds probably aren't going to lead them to glory, especially when I highly doubt the cream of our crop is going to be shipped off.

I'll wait to see how the marketing push goes here, and if there is any noticeable increase in Everton presence in the Liverpool-dominated media (Fox Sports have their add for the derby up, or as they like to call it 'That Game Steven Gerrard Plays In'). The deal doesn't seem bad, just kinda pointless.

I'd say this is more about club exposure than player development. EFC kids will be sent there on a year-long placement (no chance of them being recalled during that time), it gives them a chance to play first team football, learn a slightly different style of play, and from a club relationship perspective, will no doubt lead to us getting first dibs on the best Mariners players.

The overall A-League standard may only be League One/Two, but there'll still be the odd gem that will stand out, which might succeed in the PL.

You'd send our Youth players to a team that you wouldn't want any of their current players. Clearly, CCM have something else to offer other than improving our players then.

Well, that's one of my points! lol

Um, we've sent Conor Grant to Motherwell on loan, care to name which of their players you'd want? Nonsensical argument, we don't send players out on loan to assist us in signing other players from the same club.

Lets be honest.. there's not one player in the A-League at EPL standard right now. But they don't need to be, we just need to get first dibs on the next Jedinak, Rogic, Ryan, Sainsbury... the players who could make EPL standard one day.

The goalkeeper for the European powerhouse that is the Faroe Islands? Look mate, if you don't want our youngsters to go to Australia because you think it's one long beach party here, fair enough. It's not, but that's your opinion. If you'd prefer our youngsters to go to some League One club in the North West because you don't trust TV/internet/foreign coaches or whatever that's your opinion, fair enough. But let's have it right - you don't loan young players out in order to sign other players, you loan them out for their own development. Chris Long has gone to Brentford. By your logic, which of their superstars are we in for?

Would've thought this is a good idea. Probably only a matter of time before the aussies get things right football wise by which time we could hopefully have a foothold there.

They're getting there.

A-League isn't great, as others have stated. It'll get better over time but yeah it's still pretty bad. But, this is a good move and will provide some good opportunities for the youngsters.
