MARINERS FORGE PLAYER DEAL WITH EVERTON

Why is it moaning if you don't agree? For the record, it's called an opinion.

-People used to express their strong opinion about Cahill doing International duty here.
-it's too far away to keep an eye on the players.
-The A League standard is poor...Cahill wouldn't play in it.
-if they wanted "big game" exposure, there's at least three better clubs to choose from.
-If they want the kids to develop, sending them to a warm climate on the Sea is just great....

No, the reason Tim won't play here is because he didn't get a good enough offer.... and when you're offered $10mil a year AUD, you don't say no as a 35 year old.... nothing to do with the standard of the league

Perfect timing - just turned on Fox Sports News and there was a nice feature on the deal between Everton and Central Coast Mariners. The presenter said that 'Premier League club Everton will be well known to Australian soccer fans as Socceroo Tim Cahill scored 68 times during his spell at the club'...followed by a montage of some of Tim's best goals. Makes a change from seeing stuff about United and the RS...
especially after the RS announcing a pre season tour here...

Standard of football is terrible, trust me. That said, fantastic opportunity to market Everton in Aussie, keeping the ties we have had since Cahill, and giving young people opportunities overseas. Win win for me. Stop moaning ffs.

Gotta admit though the standard of football is getting better, a lot of that is because the import players are a lot better than when the A League first started where teams seemed to be just signing anyone who was south american and a lot of them were just hopeless.

It's about league 2 standard with same size crowds and slightly slower pace if I'm honest. It's improving though.

I love your chain of reasoning in how you turned that one round on me, make a claim about Cahill with no evidence to back it up then accuse me of being a wannabe ITK because I question it's legitimacy.
I accused you of nothing. I asked if you were claiming to be ITK. Cahill is always doing his bit for the 'grassroots', which is fantastic of course, but doesn't play in Australia where he'd have a huge impact. I'm sure the Chinese will get great benefit from his presence though.

if they can be distracted by grains of sand and a bit of sunshine then I doubt they have the right attitude anyway.
Right...

To answer your first point why would it be any different to if the players where playing over here, we will have people over there watching them and I doubt Martinez goes to watch our players that are on loan. Unless you are suggesting we just don't loan players at all and keep them in the U21's it doesn't have much relevance in this situation
Oooh, look at you turning that around...where have I seen someone complaining of that before? No, it's a ridiculous assumption, of course they should go out & get experience. U21's is probably a better standard though.

How about we put it another way. Which A-League player would you put straight into our first team?

Right...

I don't see the relevance of that statement at all. We're not looking to take any CCM players at the moment. It's an opportunity to give some young players some valuable big match experience (and despite the speculation here about the A league's quality, there are some big rivalries and tasty atmospheres at some games). It's also an opportunity to expand our fan base and get some media coverage in an emerging market.

Come the time when CCM unearth a cracker of a player we may well have first option on him. Conjecture, sure, but very plausible.

Ask yourself this - why have Manchester City bought/formed franchise agreements with Melbourne City and New York Red Bulls?

This still doesn't really make any sense to me. I'm not sure what our young players get out of it as the standard of the league is poor. I don't really know what the Mariners get out of it because a couple of 17 year olds probably aren't going to lead them to glory, especially when I highly doubt the cream of our crop is going to be shipped off.

I'll wait to see how the marketing push goes here, and if there is any noticeable increase in Everton presence in the Liverpool-dominated media (Fox Sports have their add for the derby up, or as they like to call it 'That Game Steven Gerrard Plays In'). The deal doesn't seem bad, just kinda pointless.

Plenty of reasons for them to come here.

You'd send our Youth players to a team that you wouldn't want any of their current players. Clearly, CCM have something else to offer other than improving our players then.

Well, that's one of my points! lol
