Blagged the players that we were going to play exciting football and become a force again. (Nothing wrong with that, all the top managers SAF and Mourinho get into their players heads)
The trouble was that he couldn't sustain it and the players stopped believing in him. It was downhill from there.
Then I think of some of his signings, Lakaku being the exception, Niasie FFS.
If he'd have walked away I'd have had some respect and probably remembered his good points, but when he kept denying the obvious and told us we were playing well when we were proper crap then I just lost all respect for him.

I agree. I've nothing against that conclusion at all. It's one I share...although our reason's why that happened might differ.

Moyes took us to 17th and danced on the trapdoor = safe as houses.
Martinez took us twice to midtable = we nearly died as a club.

Utterly preposterous, though entirely in tune with the drama queen 'analysis' of OFM from the usual mob.

He ripped the fabric of a once solid team who would run through walls for the manager and replaced it with an absolute disgraceful, inept, wet team who were afraid of their own shadow.

The football after season 1 was some of the worst I've witnessed, the insane decision making during games and the absolute guff he spunked money on. He thought he had this wonderful eye for talent, that only he could see the hidden miracle that nobody else could; this garbage he laid at our door and fed us. His constant BS afte games. And then had the absolute cheek to take us to court for more compensation.

The man was a disgrace that will be in our history, he doesn't deserve to be associated with this club.

I have no respect for this charlatan, he would have buried us in division 2 and then tell us everything was ok. Thank god moshiri binned this weapon, it should have been 12 months earlier.

Spending money on that garbage felt like I was being mugged, and then having people on a forum who don't set foot in the ground that you're wrong, just proves what a 2 bit clown that fraud was; he was a soundbite darling who talked a good game but didn't have a clue in reality.

I can't wait till he's managing Cheltenham

That's great. None of it resulted in it destroying our club.

This is typical really. I am not even defending the bloke. He was rightly sacked when he was. All I did was point out that two poor seasons resulting in mid table finishes does not in any way shape or form result in our club being "destroyed" yet you gave a massive diatribe that said nothing new at all that people do not already know.

Take a look around at clubs who have been legitimately destroyed by some massively dodgy characters. Clubs are dropping out of leagues, going out of business, not even paying their day to day staff and yet we get this for dropping a couple of places in the top flight of the richest league on earth.

Since when did Everton become so precious? He failed, we move on. The over exaggeration is utterly ridiculous. As is claiming that the team before he got here would run through walls for their former manager! They were losers when it mattered! One of the reasons Martinez got the job was because his side absolutely rolled over ours in the cup game. Memories are short though.

The worst thing was that he pretended he had done nothing wrong and that's everyone's fault but not his fault. He took the club backwards and lost the dressing room. If he had dignity and resigned, perhaps he would get some respect back. But no, he eventually left with a reported fat £10m compensation and some news articles even said he took the club to court in order to get the full sum!? Clearly he got zero diginity and class.

So you dislike people being OTT in their descriptions Dave, fair enough. Maybe you can stop using nonsense and disrespectful descriptions like "ale house" club for Wigan since that's equally as prosperous.

So they aren't an "ale house club" then are they? They're a side who spent eight years in the Premier League. They aren't even close to an "ale house club". It's totally disrespectful to describe them as such. League two sides aren't even close to an "ale house club" and only somebody who knows nothing about football or is wilfully ignorant would call them that.

Say if you are bad at doing your job, you made mistakes and caused the company going backwards and lost a great deal of money due to your ineptness. Have some diginity and resign.

I cannot believe you could be so naive?
He had a contract. Everton wanted to get rid of him so they should pay compensation.
Do you think every player who turned out cack for us should have had "some dignity and resign(ed)"?
It's just not the way it works and, if it did, the industry would be horrendous.
There are PLENTY of sticks to beat Martinez with. Him getting his LAWFUL compensation for having his employment terminated is not one of them.
