Who's need the money when one got £10m plus for being sacked. Thanks Bill.

Pleased to see that you place the blame with the correct person. I always dislike it when people moan about the pay-offs that sacked managers etc receive. It's what was contractually agreed, pacta sunt servanda. Wilmots got a couple of millions (the remainder of his contract) for getting sacked; and so he should even though he is extremely incompetent.

Again mate, that was during ECQ when Ranieri was having a mare

Since WCQ started, they hadn't lost a competitive game at home before this one. Bosnia couldn't get anything there for instance, and I think most of us would consider them a decent side. The only iffy result would have been the 0-0 with Estonia, but as France showed last night sometimes you'll play a weaker side and not break them down

Heck, we know all about that ourselves as Evertonians

Their home record during WCQ hasn't been bad at all

Both Bosnia and Estonia got a point.

What about 6 seasons out of 7 finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League?

Are Wigan supposed to expect top half finishes?

We do obviously but 11th place isn't "bottom half" for me. I mean obviously technically it is but to me its mid table and its moved around to suit peoples agenda (mine included...)

They were expected to be safe from relegation since they'd achieved top half finishes with Steve Bruce and Paul Jewell and to remain part of the league without embarrassing themselves as a direct result of their managers tactics which he refused to changes because he valued his ego more then the wellbeing of the club.

Lot's of people have completed Dark Souls

It doesn't make it any less difficult a game

Just some people can "get gud" whilst others can't

Northern Ireland are also second to Germany in their group, so they're hardly a bunch of tomato cans. Ditto for Iceland
I love this post. The Dark Souls comparison is immense. Great game, great post.

They're not supposed to expect relegation. And they were mid table by your own definition before he took over.

Ok 11th is mid table, but 13th is definitely bottom half, which is where he left us.

We have been through this before. That was only sustainable for so long. Where they are now is about their level realistically.

And I still strongly disagree with you mate. No club has a level to stay at forever, clubs can rise and fall and become furniture in certain devisions. Wigan had that chance to kick on as a side to become a stable premier league outfit or at least a yo-yo side akin to West Brom of the mid 2000's but they had that chance taken away from them due to horrendous mismanagement, admittedly not all from Martinez but mostly from him.

I know clubs can rise and fall! Hence why Wigan had a great run for a few years. Eventually though it becomes unsustainable as bigger clubs come in and take all your best players, the fan base is of a limited amount and no matter what the club will fall back down at some point. It always happens, Luton Town, Wimbledon etc, it will probably happen to Bournemouth eventually too as they can not keep pulling rabbits out of the hat over and over again as the supporter base and resources are limited. A lot of these clubs prop themselves up on premier league money and premier league standard players and when they go down all those players leave and there is nothing beneath that to keep them up as a yo-yo side.

The traditional Yo-Yo clubs (Middlesbrough, Sunderland, West Brom in the past as you said) all have solid fan bases and are much bigger clubs than the type of club I mean.

It's sustainable under proper management. If a club is built up proper like Wigan was and maintains compitant management, which they did until the hired Martinez. Without him they could of at least remained a side that was hard to beat. The fall wouldn't of been as bad as it was under a good manager. As you said though mate, weve been here before and we never agree on this subject. Fair play to you for sticking to your point if view but I won't be changing mine anytime soon either.;)

Its not though because their better players will always want to move on once the "big boys" come sniffing around. I cant think of any clubs who have sustained it, eventually it will all come falling down. I wish it wasn't the case but it is.

I'm not bothered about Martinez here to be honest here, I just think it's a good discussion topic. (In a Martinez thread admittedly..)
