I mean in what way was Martinez better? Not saying I rate Rodgers but I can't really argue against him vs Martinez
Rodgers won nothing at a club where you're supposed to at least win a domestic trophy. He had Suarez, Coutinho, Gerrard, etc etc and still couldn't achieve.

Martinez had Jagielka and co.

Oh so it's ok for Everton managers to not win anything? Can't agree with that.

Cup run is meaningless if you don’t win a cup.

it's not, mate! a cup run brings with it potential for glorious memories...that's what following is all about, that's why we do it: to build up a collection of glorious memories. Think Dan Gosling's winner, the Fiorentina game, and a handful more great cup ties in seasons where we didn't win the actual cup itself.

A cup run is based on a draw. If one gets lucky he may get a run against some jerk sides till the semi. It’s kind of small time to glorify a meaningless cup run. All I can remember is winning the 95 FA Cup. Thanks big Joe.

The league is based on consistency and can truly reflected a manager’s ability.

it's small-time to cherish great memories like the Gosling goal and the Fiorentina tie? So 95% of all football club's fans are small-time then. Why on Earth do they bother?

I continue to follow Everton because I cherish the great memories they (sometimes) bequeath us. A trophy, as we know, is a rare bonus.

I follow Germany in international football, and my favourite memory ever is the 4-1 vs England in 2010, despite ultimately losing the semi. I've also experienced trophy wins in 1990, 1996 & 2014, but that one game is my number one most-cherished Germany memory.

With Everton, it's the 4-4 vs Liverpool. We didn't win the cup that year either. But I cherish that memory more than the '95 cup win.

I suppose we all follow our team in our own way...but in my way, a cup run can be glorious even without winning the thing.

I respect your view, in the end we have our own standard.

I do not agree with you on that. The success of a club is winning trophies and entering Euro competitions via league position. Not celebrating beaten by Fiorentina narrowly and weeping secretly in the dark. Which is why Martínez was a crap manager overall for this club.

Martinez wasn't the manager for the Fiorentina game. I was using that as an example that generally cup ties can bequeath fine memories. I saw the Wolfsburg game at the stadium, that was also a fine thing. We didn't win that cup either.

That’s why I said cup run is meaningless. I can’t remember which team had beaten Martinez’s side a couple of season ago in the quarterfinal. I only remember Royle won the FA Cup for Everton.

Beating Dagenham and Redbridge 2-0 was a particularly glorious occasion for me too. We got to see Leandro Rodriguez run onto the pitch for the full time whistle. Norwich at home on penalties runs it close, followed by Carlisle away 3-0.
