Martinez new Belgium head coach

How does anyone figure this?!

Martinez got us bummed at Anfield 4-0 TWICE.

Finished bottom half with Lukaku up top TWICE.

Got us knocked out the EL by playing his toilet cleaner mate.

Worst home record in club history in his final year.

Bottled two easily winnable semi finals by insisting on a suicidal brand of football everyone (apart from DaveK of course) hated.

Signed Arouna effing Kone on a 3 deal then gave him an extension.

Turned Howard into a pariah by not dropping him.

Crocked a talented looking McCarthy permanently in Wolfsburg.

Turned all the players into the unfittest squad I've ever seen compete in the Premier League.

Signed Funes Mori over Van Djik.

I could go on all night. Koeman had his flaws and was responsible for disasters but nothing he did approach the sheer insanity of Roberto Martinez. A truly appalling manager.
Yeah but apart from those facts he's brilliant. RM72.

FA Cup win and RELEGATION in the same season.

Best to remember those little facts if we are going to be pedantic.
FA Cup win = more than we as a club have achieved for 23 years.

Add in his record breaking Camelot season here and his Belgium / WC record and those reluctant to do so have to face up to this: he is a far more accomplished manager than we've been an acomplished football club for almost a quarter of a century.

The truth hurts.

Martinez and Southgate both did well at the World Cup , roberto admittedly with a better squad but Southgate has obviously continued that good form into this next tournament.
Turnip Souhgate took Engliish football back a couple of generations. It was like watching a 1970s England side with Malcolm McDonald and Emlyn Hughes in it. The hoofball is prehistoric. Other nations were laughing at England's dinosaur long ball and set piece dominated play.

In no way shape or form can THAT muck he served up be compared to the glorious football served up by Belgium under Martinez at that WC. The two hidings Belgium gave England underlined the gulf in style and method.

So he "forgot to defend" did he ?

Bit difficult to believe that when you are 2-0 up and all your outfield players are in or around the opposition penalty and you are wide open to the counter attack.

Smacks of abdicating responsibility and throwing players under the bus.
Exactly Mark O'Silver - Roberto the multi-millionaire CEO abdicates responsibility and blames the workforce for company's abject performance. Scapegoats union leaders. Pursues maximal compensation as a reward for failure.
Disappointed to see a small minority of posters are prepared to defend this complete Tory behaviour on a site like this, tbh.

I assume you’re talking about the symbolic capital of Arthurian legend, as opposed to a closed down, abandoned relic of a second rate amusement park.

Davek I have a lot of respect for your opinion and you create excellent debates and topics on here. But even you have to admit that Martinez scored a spectacular own goal with his team selection and style yesterday.

It’s funny because England have been playing the best passing football they’ve played for 3 generations.

"Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot."

Everton, season 2013/14.
