Martinez: The Reality

I'm worried about what's going to happen in the summer unless we win the Europa. How many players are willing to take responsibility for what has happened this year and how many will want to jump ship as they think they deserve a 'bigger' club?
If there up there own ass let them leave, as long as we see the cash for them anyone who thinks there too good they can go and Koff

2013/14.

Instant feel good factor back at Goodison. 'Boss' moments everywhere. Record Premier League points tally. For the first time in a long time, genuine hope and ambition that we had a manager who could bring some good times to the club - a trophy.

2014/15.

Domestically, a complete write off. Where has it all gone wrong?

Our pre-season effort was pathetic.
Second season syndrome?
Players unable to cope with the Europa League?
Players who played for a transfer/deal last season losing that motivation this season?
No wingers, not adequately replacing Pienaar/Deulofeu?,
Being found out?
Goodison pitch going to the dogs...

The excuses are far and wide.

We've been piss poor this season. Martinez has infuriated even the most patient of fans. Considering the squad, it's a fair argument to suggest we've been worse than any season under Moyes. In fact, points wise, we're comparable to Walter Smith...

BUT, the reality is... we won't get relegated, and a 5 year deal in June tells you he isn't going anywhere just yet.

He'll have another summer. He deserves it based on his first season.

He'll start a new season, having learnt more about Everton this season than ever before. He'll start that season (provided we don't win the Europa...) without any European commitments.

Review the manager in December...

Until then, do we really need to entertain the tedious, premature sacking the manager debate?...

His inability to learn is the reason the 'Martinez Out' poll is still so tight.

Our last two PL wins have come when playing two wingers, yet he persists with playing one and we can't buy a win as a result.

Howard has cost us more points than I can count this season (i would wager 10 +) and yet he drops robles on the back of 3 CS and as a result we can't keep clean sheets anymore.

If he would rectify these then he might get back the support of the fans, but the fact that I can tell you now he will do neither is precisely why so many want him gone, why should we trust him to do it going into next season when he wont do it now?

Who do you see as the most likely to go? Mirallas and McCarthy?

I agree with most of that. I am firmly in the keep Martinez camp, I suppose for reasons articulated. He needs to have a summer where he offloads older players and brings in his own players. I am a big believer in judging a manager when he has "his" players in the team. I have seen enough in the signings of Besic, McCarthy, Lukaku, Robles as well as the emergence of Stones and Barkley to suggest he can sign and bring through decent young players.

Having said that he doesn't and shouldn't have forever. I think next December is a pretty good measuring stick. If we are this bad then, then it is reasonable to assume his job will become perilous and he will probably need to go.

As regards the debate I think it's a legitimate debate. There are clearly a significant number of fans who want him out. It's interesting that is growing substantially even after a turnaround in form. I don't think stifling the debate is the best way to challenge the debate of what Martinez should stay. I think the debates are by in large conducted very well with people respecting other sides of the debate and important.

I can't be rational towards him if he persists with Tim Howard in goal and either Barkley or Naismith out wide.

Fully agreed that the Martinez in or out polls cement our place as B.A.W.K. but me and him arent talking right now.

Pre season coming up this summer will be under the microscope more than ever before. We also are going to lose a name or two I reckon. The players won't be as patient as the fans.

That apart I reckon he can still turn it around.

Its been a crap season following on from a crap world cup and crap preseason. The defence was awful from the start of the season and undermined any confidence in going forward. Howard has been central to this. We all thought that Robles was crap, but to be fair to the lad he came in and did OK. The rest of the defence is becoming settled again and once the keeper position is sorted and confidence back we have the quality to get back up the table.....

He's an experienced premier league manager, just because he's still young doesn't mean he doesn't have the experience. He shouldn't need a learning curve.

I'm not into all this europa affecting us stuff, it's a myth. And we won't win it, a top European club will come against us and kill the game dead at goodison

We should not be in this position with this squad and that's the annoying part

That's what it is in my eyes. Just play 2 wingers, can't think of any good team who doesn't play 2 wide players out wide.

I agree, can't understand why (especially yesterday) he can't play 2 wingers against a team who were playing five at the back and were happy most of the time sitting back. The only problem I see is to play with two wide men Naismith would have to be benched, and then Barkley can play behind Lukaku, IMO though, it seems like Naismith's is the first name on the team sheet for Martinez.

Looks like Roberto has jettisoned Distin. Needs to do the same to Howard now I think.

......perhaps everybody suffered from great expectation following last season. I thought it would be a major achievement to maintain Moyes' league status but he improved us. This season it's 2 steps backwards. I don't know why, I really don't although it is probably a number of factors (including teams might have found us out).

One point worth making is that most managers have a period of problems before getting things right. SAF at United and Kendall here worth mentioning. Last season went fantastic. Regular manager changes are historically an ingredient for failure. We need to hang in there as far as I'm concerned, a knee jerk reaction could be dangerous.

Why would you review someone position again 9 months from now (halfway through a new season) if there are major questions marks over his current position? If the position statement was Bill,s keeping him and could give a hoot about the season tkt holders and supporters then why don,t we just say it and put it all on the club directors.

I really don't see the point of asking fans to knock back the club medicine so to speak in the interests of us all getting along when the problem is right in front of us.

Only thing I could think of is that he's trying to create a replacement for Pienaar on the left hand side to allow Baines to get forward.

Agree that December is when it should be reviewed but that isn't going to stop people talking about it and expressing their opinion until then.
