2018/19 Mason Holgate

That would seem true but more often than not they have higher percentages than forwards and wingers and are in the neighborhood of the deeper lying midfield players. Unless Holgate was making long sweeper like runs before trying to play passes, the expectation would be that pass % would be pretty useful in determining the accuracy of his passing compared to Keane, Jags and the like. He was well behind them and I even went looking at some other teams and honestly the person closest to him was Shawcross that I found. Defenders on the teams above us are all more accurate

Pass % is generally pretty iffy and even moreso for CBs yeah, cos it all depends on how ambitious the passes they're making are, it's hard to make much of a conclusion over how his passing is...there's more advanced models out there which takes into account the difficulty of passes

He's no Stones but he seems fine on the ball I think

I've said this in subsequent posts that I understand your point but my guess is based on watching him and how low his percentage is that those kinds of adjustments won't do much to improve the numbers

30 yards from goal is not a high line. We've talked about this 800 times, we aren't doing a high press, we are running a counter scheme that's compressing the defensive zone like Simeone. Honestly, this is kind of fundamental counter attacking modern football, it's basic tactics. As I've said many times, go read about Simeone's tactics at Athletico if you want to understand what Silva is doing. There is a lot of information on how Silva wants to build out of the back and spring our OUTSIDE backs, too. Encourage you to read it.=.

We aren't pressing high, it's high relative to Sam's bunker in and hoofball approach, which is why individuals here think they are seeing a high line and my guess is why Holgate would state they are playing a high line. It's not Klopp's gegenpressing, it's not Pep's zonal / possession approach.

You had people on this forum suggesting we were playing at like midfield and it required our center backs to be Usain Bolt. Keeping in a consistent line 30 yards from goal is not high, nor does it require sprinters ability. You had folks on here suggesting we were playing possession football. You had folks suggesting we were instituting a high press. We aren't.

No need to tell me mate. I gave up arguing with you weeks ago. You'd better tell Marco he's not playing a high line though as he clearly thinks he is according to Mason.;)

We arent playing a press like Plopp, but we are defo pressing from the front.

I give you credit for being willing to dialog. Others are just tactically ignorant.
Mate. Since the end of last season I've seen you claim we're not playing a high line despite the players saying we are, give a completely inaccurate description of the role of the midfield pivot, and assert your belief that the 'holding' in holding midfielder relates to the length of time the player holds on to the ball. I wouldn't go round calling other people tactically ignorant if I was you.

....is a better centre half than he is a full back, although capped at u21 as a full back. He doesn't get a mention when compared to say Jo Gomez when both have probably played similar number of games for their respective first teams although I'm not as sure that the difference in ability is a great as is made out. He should see an England cap as an ambition though.....interestingly media both say Gomez & Phil Foden at City are likely to get call ups for this early international break.
