He made an error albeit a costly one bur we created enough chances to rectify the situation. I would take him out the firing line in the next game but he is still a useful player. Watkins pace would absolutely have destroyed both Keane and Mina.
 
12 years ago Phil Jagielka made a similar error against Villa we didn't write him off after that. I know it was shocking but these things happen. John Stones who everyone is raving about this season made an error recently.
 
When the team was put out yest i saw a few posts of the holgate/godfrey pairing being praised and i just quietly thought really?
Lets break it down a bit. One was on loan at west brom and the other was in a relegated norwich side that let in about 70 odd goals i think. Not saying either are terrible or good. Its just a bit of a reality check. And the two on the bench can be just as at sea as those that started.
We dont have great centre backs. Tired of reading otherwise.
 

Go back to his first few games of the season, and from the comments you'd think we had prime Beckenbeuer.
 
The ability is there but he has to learn that great defenders do exactly that.

When/if the penny drops he can become an excellent defender.

As defenders go he is still young.

...and the misconception that he’s fast.

He’s a competitive lad who can come in and do a job. Unfortunately, he thinks he’s better than he is & his frailties are exposed in a run of games.

As I’ve continually & consistently said, he’s not a starter.
 
I honestly think the standard of player across the board seems to be getting worse year on year and is making the game very dull. Not a dig at mason, I've never rated him that highly as a cb just an opinion on how I see modern footballers.
 

Can never tell with this lad, Thought he was very good against Arsenal and pocketing Mane out the game then he goes and does something silly like that, Hard to judge him as a player at all.

Agree s/b Mina before him, also not sure he is comfortable with Coleman at his side.

He was very passive last night until the 2nd half. Underestimated the hard work Watkins puts in and both him and Godfrey got caught. Needs to understand he needs to be on it every game to play regularly.

That being said... Godfrey and Holgate isn't a partnership that's solid enough.
