I've said it before, but I think Holgate offers little. He has no special physical attributes, and lacks a lot when it comes to tactical assessments. In addition, he has an arrgoant playing style, and seems unconcentrated in his game. I do not think he is good enough for this level.

He's had a poor season overall.
Adequate at times at right back but offering nothing going forward.
Limited at centre back and can get bullied easily.

My opinion in Feb;

He's had a bad season.

I don't think he's a bit part player, needs continuity/momentum.

My opinion last month;

He's not managing to play himself back into form is he?

Shame we haven't got a squad so we can't take him out the team...

With Mina and Keane now fit, I don't think he should play another minute this season.

His form has been one of the worst aspects of this season.

Hopefully next season he can get a grip and play himself back but no way on gods earth should he be starting for us now.

12 years ago Phil Jagielka made a similar error against Villa we didn't write him off after that. I know it was shocking but these things happen. John Stones who everyone is raving about this season made an error recently.

Holgate isn't anywhere near the level of Jagielka or Stones. He had a few good games last year and as is tradition within our fanbase we come to expect an unrealistic level of performance every week that he's not capable of.

Don't think he or Godfrey benefit from playing alongside eachother, both looked a bit lost and in need of an experience head to help them out.

Unfortunately, not showing any signs of improvement. Reckon he might be off this summer.

Simply too bad on the ball. Any striker should always stay within 10/15 yards of him as he is so indecisive. They will get at least 2/3 good chances to steal it off him a game.

I think as a 2 you are right but they both look decent in my opinion alongside Mina in a 3 or one of them in a 2 with Mina. Holgate looked poor when he played alongside Zouma as well but in a short stint alongside Ashley Williams was OK. Maybe he needs to play alongside a slower defender. I think when you get two front foot defenders they can get caught out. Yobo and Distin never worked well together but they were both good alongside Jagielka. Likewise Heitinga and Jagielka were poor when paired but put them alongside Distin and the vastly improved. No more Holgate and Godfrey unless it's part of a 3.

Think people are being a bit harsh with him, he's been awful this season but he was our best cb when fit last season.

He's not the only player that have had dreadful seasons. When mina is fit though he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.
