Im of the opinion that if were not in Europe and we start the season realistically with only two chances of winning anything then we should be trying our best in both of them. No need to make 9 changes cos were not in Europe so what the [Poor language removed] are we resting players for.

Lads we lost a game .... We rested 8 players from the weekend.... Rightly or wrongly......... United have lost two, Chelsea have lost, spurs have spent 100 million and lost..... We have no god given right to win every game.... Get over it.... Fulham were never gonna lie down...... We lost, learn from it and move on ffs. Some of you on here are just pain embarrassing to be honest.

We didn't take our chances, we conceded 2 poor goals, thus we are out.

Not a good day for Robles, apart from the error leading to the second goal he did not look comfortable, his distribution was very poor.

Reading the thread I don't get the criticism of Deulofeu, still very raw but what a talent! Barry was excellent again when he came on.

Great support again for the Blues, huge numbers for a League Cup game and second game in London in 4 days, tremendous effort!

Roberto Martinez believes Everton created more than enough chances to win the Capital One Cup clash with Fulham.

The Blues took an early lead through Steven Naismith and threatened throughout but were eventually undone by second half strikes from Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent.

It was a disappointing outcome after such a splendid first-half display by the visitors.

“One of the things it's fair to say is that we never had a little bit of luck today,” claimed the boss.

“The first-half was outstanding, very, very dominant but the only criticism is that we didn't take more chances. I felt we created enough chances to win the game and that's why it's so disappointing not to get through.”

Even after falling behind, Martinez's men had opportunities to force extra time - but it wasn't to be.

"It was one-way traffic in the last ten minutes and it was very pleasing, the manner that we adapted, the way we changed the shape a little bit and the personnel,” he said. “We made changes as they were needed and we looked like a really strong side, clearly we knew what we were doing and that's credit to the players.”

Martinez made eight changes to the team that had started at West Ham at the weekend and he said this of the players who came in.

“Some of the players looked really sharp and will benefit from it. They need to be playing games to be able to help the team. Darron Gibson has been a long time away injured so it was really important that he had some playing time. John Stones performed really really well and Gerard Deulofeu showed flashes of the outstanding talent that he has.

“Throughout the team it was a performance from a group of players who are ready to help the team to achieve our aims. It's not one of those disappointing days where we didn't do ourselves justice. I thought we performed extremely well and obviously the scoreline doesn't reflect the full story but we should take the chances that we created.”

Fair assement I rekon

Disappointing, but we are going to have a number of nights like that. The manager is new and still learning about his players and his formations.
He will probably have learned as much tonight as he has from any other game he has played this season.

We also need to remember that new players settle at clubs at different speed.Barry,a vastly experienced and well travelled player settled quickly ,others maybe not so quick...but in time they may become great players for ou

my thoughts after returning from the match

- rested too many key players
- delofelu looked great first half, faded badly in second half.
- im not really sure what mccarthy does, he was anonymous and gibson wasn't much better. those two in central midfield is not a good combo.
- Joel is sketchy. He was getting untold stick in the first half from our fans, he looked like such a liability... kept trying to chip it out to coleman on the wing and getting us into trouble.

Pretty much this.......

Funny as it may sound Martinez will have learnt a lot more from our players tonight than if we had won...... Not saying losing is a good thing but we are a team under new management nd with new players..... It's gonna take time nd we are gonna lose more games long the way but if the end product 18 months or so down the line is progress then I happy to give the manager the time.
