It’s not necessarily that we don’t have the money it’s that we are unable to spend it freely without regard to P/S regulations due to our previous profligacy. We can’t pay money we don’t have. That’s the issue.
Oh no , we have the money we can't spend. We can’t pay money we don’t have. That’s the issue.
Don’t quite understand the issue really. If the total transfer cost is spread over the players contract why does how much we pay upfront make any difference to those costs. If we had the cash couldn’t we theoretically pay for all the transfers up front & the cost just gets spread. I must be misunderstand something (which isn’t unusual?)Oh no , we have the money we can't spend.
Well I agree, but the end result is still the same. We can’t make stupid offers just to complete a deal. It’s not necessarily that we don’t have the money it’s that we are unable to spend it freely without regard to P/S regulations due to our previous profligacy.
We have already escaped serious punishment after technically breaching those regulations , we can’t afford to risk overspending again as the authorities will certainly not be as tolerant.
If King Midas purchased the club tonight we’d still be in the same position tomorrow.
We can’t spend is certainly true.Oh no , we have the money we can't spend.
Davis was his name I think mate.
If as a premier league club in 2022 you can’t afford to pay a £17.5m release clause up front you probably shouldn’t be operating anymore
I don't think many clubs pay up front any more, and to be fair I suspect it's less to do with being able to afford it but rather meeting the sustainability rules. If as a premier league club in 2022 you can’t afford to pay a £17.5m release clause up front you probably shouldn’t be operating anymore

We're trying to maximise the number and quality of purchases alongside structuring deals that help us stay within the rules. Sadly, it'll be difficult to do so.
