Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

@Barnfred 55 Ive just discovered this.
Military jargon in the US:

Soup Sandwich -- Used to describe an individual, object, situation or mission that has gone horribly wrong. The thrust of the term's meaning derives from the fact that it is incredibly difficult, some would say impossible, to make a sandwich out of soup.

I'm going to start using this phrase! lol

It certainly does. The phrase "soundtrack of your life" is so true. There are certain songs that automatically remind me of people, places, events. Most good, some sad.
Also "Unchained Melody" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Great choice. My husband and I met and married in 1991 so unsurprisingly Bryan Adams Everything I Do is 'our' song!

….funny enough, I was thinking that could be a good idea for a thread. Not particularly great tunes, but songs that resonate because they have a nostalgic link.

Just a thought. Maybe give Messy a boost. All you Everton fans, tell us your best Everton moments. Paul Rideout isn't allowed by the way. Haha

So many favourite moments. Too many to list, as I was fortunate enough to watch us winning stuff in the 80s.

I think no match quite covers the roller coaster of emotions that Everton put us through than the Wimbledon game in '94. 2-0 down, seemingly heading for relegation, only to win 3-2 in the dying minutes. From despair to relief to elation all in one match. So Everton.

My first match as a kid was special. September 1973 and we beat Bobby Robson's Ipswich 3-0. I still remember walking up the steps and getting tingles seeing Goodison for the first time. We were stood on the terraces and the atmosphere, the whole experience was a real assault on the senses. Remember it like it was yesterday.

I've thought of a use for that phrase straight away. "Everton are making a right soup sandwich of this."

I think Harry has just made a soup sandwich of his favourite Everton moment ?

Sorry mate. You know I love you really.

Hmmm tough one. My first visit to Goodison. FA Cup match v Fulham in 1975. We lost unexpectedly. Fulham got beat in the Final by West Ham.
The 1984 FA Cup final. Just the best day ever.
Then a few years ago, just after I took redundancy from my previous job my finances and Everton's participation in Europe collided favourably so my son and I went to European away match. A long held ambition of mine. We went to Bern to watch Everton v Young Boys. We won, Lukaku was amazing. The outstanding memory was being in Burger King post match and all you could hear were Scouse accents! Brilliant.
Scousers always have a taste for fine dining. ;)

@Methuselah I’m sorry to hear you are not feeling well. You look after yourself too and keep us updated.
Thanks Sassy. I had my lateral flow test yesterday which was negative. Had my PCR test this morning. Results take 72 hours. My two daughters organise everything. They have smart phones which seem to be required for everything these days. It does annoy me when dealing with outfits that 'assume' you have a smart phone. I have a mobile phone which makes and receives phone calls. It also does 'texts' which I don't bother with. I don't want or need a smart phone. Rant over! Sassy, you look after yourself too and that is extended to all the good people on this fine website.

I'm struggling but I think the first time I watched Everton live was away to Bolton in the late 70s, possibly 1980.
Boxing day and the game was abandoned at half time due to heavy snow.
It was 1-1, scorers were two great players, Frank Worthington and Bob Latchford.

I had my Everton hat and scarf on, but my step dad had us in with the home fans and we walked round to the railings dividing the Everton supporters as so I could stand close with them.

Got pelted with snowballs from Everton fans laughing their socks off!
I ended up in the wrong end once, and that was at home. It was The Chelsea game that Latchford got his 30th league goal in, may even have been the same season. A group of about 5 of us got there late cos we'd been in the pub since lunchtime and decided last minute to go the game. The queues to get in around the ground were massive (as they were back in those days) but one of the queues at the Park End was empty so we went in that one. Big mistake. Huge mistake in fact. The 2 sets of fans were separated by about 10m and 2 lines of police. We made our way to the far side and whispered to the policeman that we were Evertonians in the wrong side. He just laughed. We tried to keep a low profile, which was pretty impossible given we'd had more than a few and we scored 6 goals. Some how we managed to get out of there in one piece but it's probably the most scared I've ever been. lol
