Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Wouldn’t be nice if we could all have a wonderful life and get the opportunity to live to her age. Sounds like you have a great setting for her at your house. How lucky for your mom that Mrs. J was okay with you taking care of your mum. My hubby knows it will be the same with my mama. We are already thinking that within the next year or two she is going move with us so we will need to find a bigger house. I would love to find a place with a different entrance so she, and we, can have full privacy when needed. Just because like you mum, my mom never stops complaining not matter what ?
Thanks Sassy.

My dad passed away in 2000 and my wife suggested that mum come and live with us.

We are lucky enough ( well actually we both worked really hard ) to have a big house with lots of land so it seemed a natural thing to convert an outbuilding to make a home for my mum.

At first she was reluctant to leave her home and friends that she had known for so long but eventually she decided that she wanted to move up and she said it's the best thing she's ever done.

She has her independence but at 50 metres away we are close enough to deal with any problems.

Holidays can be difficult because as well as getting someone to house sit and look after our animals ( 2 dogs , a cat , 2 pygmy goats , 2 sheep and 12 chickens) we also have to make sure that they get on OK with mum and increasingly she can be a bit cranky.

Pandemic allowing we are going to the Caribbean in the winter and my cousin who she loves will come to stay to look after her.

Mrs J is wonderful with her , making her soups currys and roast dinners although mum still cooks herself.

It can be hard work and sometimes she appears ungrateful but I think that's just old people, I dunno.

Strangely she loves to hear about when I play table tennis and adores game shows , the older the better. She definitely still all there.

If you are thinking of moving your mum in the one thing I'd recommend is trying to make sure that she had a self contained space so you and Mr SC have your own privacy and life.

Good morning all. @messymascot sending good wishes and much love to you. You continue to inspire us and the creation of this thread has proved to be such a lovely area.
@Barnfred 55 I'm not even going to ask if you are having fun with your mates. You clearly are! Enjoy their visit.
I have no news. I should be working, I have zero motivation today and I've just got a load of Court documents sent to me that are written in French. Really helpful...not!
I might be able to help if you get stuck!!!

Sass ,

My mum.has a wonderful life.

She has got to 94 and apart from being a bit deaf had no ailments.

10 years ago.she moved 300 miles from Plymouth in.the South West to come and live with us.

She has her own Granny annexe ( a garage which we converted - sounds terrible but it is actually about the size of a bungalow and much warmer due to proper insulation than our rambling old house.)

She gets to look after the dogs during the day and give them back when she's had enough!

Mind you none of this stops her complaining about anything and everything ??

My mum died a while ago, in 2009, but when she was alive she could complain about stuff that would leave you puzzled about what she was complaining about.

She used to have this thing about her curtains having to be drawn just so. She would walk into the living room and say, "Who drew these curtains?" Then walk over to said curtains and adjust them by such a tiny amount that you couldn't detect any difference with the naked eye.

When I see the really haphazard way my daughter sometimes opens the living room curtains, in a way that only teenagers can fully master, I sometimes catch myself saying, "Who drew these curtains?" I then remember my mum and smile.

What's that saying about the apple never falls far from the tree?

Bit of a faux pas on the lunch culinary front today. I don't buy posh bread, I'm medium wholemeal all the time. Unless Tesco have some exotic breads in the reduced aisle. I bought a loaf of Tesco Finest Sourdough bread for 10p last week. Just about to use it to take my fish finger butties to a whole new level. Only now realised that the bread has got currants in it! I did not notice the word fruited in front of sourdough.Ah well fish fingers, mayo and currants.I'll let you know how that works out.....??
Reported. Off topic.

Should be in the currant affairs forum.

Where in the Caribbean are you going Jazz. Love it there. So laid back.

Morning Messy. Hope you are OK and had a peaceful night. Will you be able to catch the Derby tonight?. I wasn't looking forward to this but Klopp cryarsing yesterday over VVD/Pickford, and Sky giving him the platform to do it has reignited my passion for the match. I hope Benitez has the players firing for this one.

My mate set up Amazon Prime on my telly so we can watch the game plus it's on there permanently now so I have all the extra films and shows available to me.

Had another heavy night last night so feeling a bit tender today. Again. No cooking today. I'm going to treat the boys to a cornish pasty.

Nothing better than a proper Cornish pasty.
Best I ever found was the bakery at St Mawes.
Does the ferry ru from Falmouth to St Maees in winter?
Might be a nice trip for your mates?

Morning Messy and fellow Mascoteers.

Well today's the day. The sum of all our fears.....yep I've got to go to the dentist , which I'm looking forward to more than this evening when some game is taking place.

Desperately hope that you are able to read our messages to you mate and that you will be able to soon let us know that you are OK.

Have a good day everyone.
