Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good afternoon @messymascot and all my good mates here. I hope everyone is not feeling too bad today after yesterday's loss. At least it's over and now it time to move on. Arsenal is another tough match but we are already seem to be hitting hard bottom so we can only go up from here.

You all are too kind with your words and flattery of my match commentary. I have been tearing reading all your sweet post until I got to Ange's and went from crying to LMAO lol @anjelikaferrett I'm sorry that you are feeling rough today, make sure to keep yourself hydrated and get some carbohydrates in your system. I must tell you that between your son's and your dad's comment I couldn't helped but to laugh about the absurdity that it must be to support Everton for so many years. But your dad is right, all that suffering must be compensated in heaven. In addition to following Everton, you and I should be accepted without hesitation because being a public servant is indeed another sacrifice that we have made in this earth.

This morning began very cold but the sun has been shinning and we are supposed to get to 19°C. I have noticed it has become a pattern in our area since the past ten years that December tends to be warmer than usual, there at times that it feels that we are back to spring temperatures and while it feels great for us, this change in climate must be confusing for animals and nature. Once January comes then it feels like winter for sure and the warm disappears for a while and we may even get some snow, which my daughter can't wait to see again. She is a winter baby after all.
??

Morning @messymascot, @Barnfred 55 and the rest of the gang.

It was good to hear from you Messy. Hope you're not too upset by the result and we get to hear from you again soon.

@Sassy Colombian you did a fantastic job with your commentary and I'm sure Messy appreciated it. You have a heart of gold.

My daughter is 16 today. Where did all those years go? I feel so lucky to have been blessed with such a lovely, kind and considerate daughter. I'm so proud of her. A hug from her just puts everything into perspective.

Have a good day everyone.
Happy 16 birthday to your lovely girl @Bluetintedspecs I hope she has a fun day! It seems you and her have strong bond so make the most of those hugs.

I can just about remember that far back.lol
Yes, it's falling into the dim and distant past for me as well. I do remember being 15 when "Dancing Queen" came out. When they sang the line Dancing queen, only seventeen I would think I wish I was 17. Now when I hear it I still wish I was 17 but from a completely different perspective! lol

Hi Sassy,
Brilliant commentary. I didn't watch it but listened to it on the radio. I'm sure that Messy was so grateful even if the match outcome was bad.

To answer your post.

We live in a rural location outside Ormskirk a market town which is about 15 miles north of Liverpool.

Both of us come from good but poor families and from the outset we were both single minded about our careers , to the extent that we didn't want children.

We worked incredibly hard , perhaps too hard , but despite my wife having significant health problems were able to retire very early.

In our 30s Mrs J found us the house of our dreams with a couple of acres of land to enable us to stretch out and her to save some animals.

It has needed a lot of work and expense but we've now got it as we like it.

We love to travel , when we can.

And now I am a full time gardener ( on our plot ) and part time table tennis player whilst Mrs J works voluntarily at the animal sanctuary.

Yes when and if you move your mum in it is essential to make sure that she can live her own independent life and that you have your own space and privacy.
Jazzy, I just found a YouTube video of the town Ormskirsk (we are so lucky to have the accessibility of the internet and with it be able to go places that we have never been) and it looks like a lovely English town, the country side must be nice too. Living in your dream house makes it worth all that hard work that you endured because now you can relax, and hopefully you'll get to enjoy a long retirement along with Mrs. J. What sort of gardening do you do? I also enjoy gardening as a hobby and grow several vegetable and leaf crops during the spring and summer. Mr. Sassy takes care of the indoor plants though, we have a lot of orchids and they are his babies. Having an orchid indoor farm is his retirement dream.

My husband and I got married very young and from that moment onward we just took responsibility for our lives. I put myself through college all on my own and went as far as getting my masters degree in public administration. My husband also put himself through Automotive school. We worked a lot but we also did our fair amount of partying and traveling when were young. For the longest time we didn't think we wanted to have children either so it was until I got to my 30s that we changed our mind and had our daughter. But when I became a mom it was during the great financial depression so I lost my job at university. Once that happen I decided to not pursue another job and stay home with my baby girl so I became a full-time mom and put my career on hold while my husband launched his mechanic shop. A few years back I decided to start working again and got hired at the college that I currently work as an academic advisor but the pay is ridiculously low so we have not been saving as much as I would like us to do so. Next year once my daughter begins middle school I have decided to return to the workforce as full time worker again, so I will be looking for another job in public education. I think it is time for me to make my career a priority again and find a full-time job that pays better and have benefits so we can better in more comfortable position once it is our time to retire and it is time to build our dream home :)

I agree that having independence will be crucial once we move with my mum, it will be best for her and for the sake of my marriage sanity lol

Hi Sassy.

Ormskirk has actually changed a lot since we moved out of Liverpool to here.

It used to be very sleepy , perhaps a bit upmarket but it has gone from being a quiet market town to being a vibrant young student town dominated by Edge Hill University.

I left school.with very modest qualifications having been pretty bored at school.

I had wanted to be a journalist but ended up working in a Solicitors ( Attorney) office as an office junior. I was lucky that a senior lawyer recognised some talent in me and encouraged me to return to studying on a part time basis. Fast forward and I earned a first class honours in law and was top marked student in that year including Oxford and Cambridge students. Mum and Dad were very proud and very nervous when I qualified and was presented with my certification.

I met Mrs J on holiday in Greece and much to my parents disgust moved from Plymouth to Liverpool 4 weeks after meeting her.

We are both from pretty rough council estates , Mrs J from a part of Liverpool called Huyton which is where we lived when I moved up in '82.

I went onto to become a senior partner in my firm and retired when I was 50 , knackered and burnt out.

Mrs J overcame 2 open heart surgeries to become an deputy head teacher at a large secondary school.

The garden is huge. Part of it is pasture for the animals but the majority is landscaped. We have over 150 different types of Rhododendron including some quite rare species grown from seed from Rhodis only found in N. India and Tibet.

We also have a many different types of Acer trees.

There are a number of different "rooms" within the garden with a Japenese courtyard , Mediterranean garden , bog garden with lake and prairie grass area.

During the last lockdown I created an Arboretum but it will be many years before it matures and looks anything..

Mind you I planted a North American Coastal Redwood which has grown 5 feet in just under a year!

So I keep busy!

My morning was brightened by the posts @messymascot ,much more than the feelings I would normally be having now thank you for that my man . I hope all have a great day as it is now over but on the football theme I thought we were simply beaten by a top team and ours gave it a go especially Ben whom I thought had his best for a while .The scoreline flattered them but they could have had 10 I suppose .
I was fearing a worse display but a similar scoreline so at least for that I am happier .
I too want to thank @Sassy Colombian for her constant positivity and we are so lucky to have her as a fan . It was a brilliant thing the commentary and she should be so proud .Your family are very very lucky to have you .
There should be a heart on the Columbian flag .
I hope Fred is firing on all cylinders today and we will all get over the defeat don't worry .
I wouldn't exactly say firing in all cylinders. After 3 days with the boys I need a break, and a couple of days on the wagon beckons. There are another group of lads that have threatened to come down and visit me in the Spring and they are animals when it comes to partying, so god knows how I'll be after that. lol

The lads left a couple of hours ago and I've just had a little nap on the couch. Took them for lunch down to the Ferryboat Inn, a lovely pub down on the Helford River, a couple of miles from where I live. It's full of Hooray Henry's in the summer but this time of year it becomes a locals pub. Mind you the locals sometimes consist of people like Roger Taylor from Queen, Kate Bush and Caroline Quentin, all of who have properties in the area. The local rumour mill also has Dawn French buying down there as she recently sold her place in Fowey. I've never seen anybody famous down there but I don't go that often as you need an oxygen tent after you've climbed back up the hill to the car park lol

You do realise that you've just given your age away Anj. lol

Not only are we both members of AA we are also the same age. And we are both masochists. We could be brother and sister we have so much in common ;)

Sounds like you had a great if tiring few days with your mates Fred.

When I was working we used to have some ridiculous Friday night sessions.
Now a couple of pints of Guiness and I'm peeing all night.
