I grew up in Speke we had about 7 to 10 pubs back in the day, now I think 2 or 3 maybe, I moved to Jersey from 1980-90 great times it was party central, moved to Canada in 91 been here ever since

Great place to live and so much space, still miss Liverpool (not the red sh!te) still watch every Blues game courtesy of DAZN I punish myself, good job the Canadians don’t know that much about footie, and I don’t have to listen to kopites r gobsh!tes spewing- wur de greatest team around (in Norwegian)


Anyhow had a few jars tonight sleep well folks,

Your garden sounds great ,I used to collect geraniums ,the perennials and was thinking of opening the garden to visitors .The criteria was that it had to have interest for 45 mins but the ex-wife said no ,but said no to almost everything !

Good morning Messy, Fred and the gang, Messy hope you slept well and maybe you could give us your thoughts on the Arsenal game?
I've woken up from my flu/covid jab with one sore arm and a heavy head as if I'd had about 6 pints (wish I had now) start work at 10 so about to start my rejuvenation routine, jam on toast with a strong coffee, works Christmas do.
Will need to keep going as works Christmas do tonight :dance:

Good morning all. We've made it to Friday in spite of the midweek apocalypse. @messymascot thinking of you and sending good wishes your way.

I may break the habit of a lifetime and voluntarily go to a Christmas Market at the weekend. I hate markets, any kind, home or abroad. I think I'm emotionally scarred by being dragged round Garston market as a child by my Mum! However there is a place near here called Raby Castle. Home of the 11th Baron of somewhere or other. It is gorgeous, has its own herd of deer. They are having a Christmas market this weekend. I need a few more pressies so might take a look.

Morning Messy, Fred and all. Hope everyone had a good night especially you Messy. Was going into to town this morning to collect my new glasses but had a call last night to say that one pair was damaged on arrival and had to be returned for repair and only the sunglasses were available. Looking at the weather sunglasses are the last thing I need, appointment for next week now so will make a start on wrapping presents instead. Just need to remember where I put the paperlol.

Just googled Raby Castle, looks stunning. Have a good time. Mind where you tread though or it will be “Get off my land!”lol

The now famous Barnard Castle is close by. Barnard Castle ( the actual castle) is in ruins. A previous Lord knocked most of it down and used the materials to build Raby Castle a few miles down the road!

Think there were 6 pubs in Speke. The Fox, The Peg, The Dove, The Noahs, The Orient and The Saucer. But if you include all the Social and Church clubs, plus drinking dens like the Pondy and The Rugby Club, there were well over 20. Now there's just 1 pub, The Orient, 2 social clubs and 1 diner. 80 % of the establishments have closed down since I left Speke in 91. I know similar has happened everywhere but probably not to the same extent. 1 pub for such a huge community is insane.

Which part of Speke where you brought up in mate?
