Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good Morning Messy, Fred and the gang, @Sassy Colombian enjoy your break and try not too worry about things too much, @jazzy not suffering after work's party, paced myself well, had a fantastic meal and good company.
Hope you all have a good day whatever you're doing , Everton not playing today for me is just another day.of anxiety wondering where the next win is coming from though Arsenal are not the team of old and we need at least to put in a performance and if we can cut out the mistakes we could give ourselves a good chance.

Good evening @messymascot and fellow Blues. I’m sorry I missed the good chat happening at this thread late yesterday and today but the I’ve been stressing over some things which is unusual for me. But a lot has been happening with my family, which is never unusual with my Colombian family. But besides that, the recent school shooting here in the US really has hit me hard because it really is a constant worry as parent. My daughter is going to begin middle school next year and at our city the main middle school has over 600 kids, and it has had lock downs before because of guns, so at times it is terrifying thinking of sending her there. Sending her to school shouldn’t have to be a concern but it is one here in the US, a country dealing with a gun pandemic as scary as covid :( I’ve also been stressing out over a trip to Costa Rica that we’ll be taking next weekend. We were supposed to go last year in March but hd to postpone it twice because of covid until this December but now with the new strain everything is getting so worrying again and tighten with the traveling restrictions, but there is now way for us to cancel or postpone for a third time or we would lose all our money so we are going for it. Hoping for the best, specially since all the activities we will be doing will be outdoors and for a week we are just going to be beach bums so we should be good lol

Anyway, enough of me. I really wish we could hear more from you, Karl. We miss you! We love you! You are in our thoughts and prayers ?
Hi Sassy, as a parent myself I understand your concerns. One of the hardest things we parents have to do is let go, and we constantly have to let go of so many things as our kids grow.

When your child holds your hand it's a sign of love, trust and feeling safe. The day they don't want to hold your hand anymore you feel a little pang of loss for something that's gone forever.

Other things we have to let go include sitting on our lap, reading bedtime stories, being called Daddy, knowing when they lie and that "How did you know that?" look on their face when they've been found out, tickling, the sound of childish giggling.

Then there are the times when they have to learn how to be independent and mix with others. Leaving them at play school and seeing how lost they look on that first day, attending big school, letting them go out on their own for the first time, not knowing everything about their life anymore, acknowledging they're officially an adult and they have to make their own mistakes and, the big one, the day they leave home, knowing you can't protect them from the world anymore.

We know bad things can happen, and it's so easy to worry about what could happen if you're not there to protect your child. Thankfully, the likelihood of something really bad happening is extremely small, and sometimes we just have to try and rationalise our thoughts and not let them overwhelm us.

As parents, all we can do is give our child our love and support, try to instil our values and give them the tools they need for when they grow up and venture out into the world on their own.

I consider myself to be fairly perceptive and I've seen enough of your posts, Sassy, to know that you're a kind, caring person with a big heart, and your daughter is lucky to have such a lovely mom.

Good afternoon @messymascot and everyone else! I hope today we have the luck to hear from you again, Karl. Would love to hear your thoughts about Monday’s match.

Thanks for all the kind words and advise from you folks. Last night I was feeling rough but I’m feeling much better this morning. The past few days I’ve been getting up before 4 am and the lack of sleep was also affecting my mood. But last night I slept for 10 hours so I’m feeling great this morning, and I’m back to my optimistic self and looking at the bright things of the issues that I was pondering last night. This time of the year while I love it, it does become a bit overwhelming for me given that besides being Christmas, and my daughter’s birthday, on the 28th it’s also my mum’s birthday (@jazzy I have a lot of Capricorns in my family, now you are one to remember too) and now the trip to CR has added a new layer of things to my already busy schedule but going on Holiday next weekend is going to be a fun experience. We have never visited CR and we will be doing a tour to see a volcano and the rain forest then we are going to the beach for a few days and snorkeling at one of the reefs so I am really looking forward to it.

@larbert toffee I hope the whisky nightcap and a couple of pork pies served you well last night and you, like me, had a good night of sleep.

@anjelikaferrett sounds like you had a lovely time with your friends. And it seems after the other night you already learned your lesson about no having too many vodkas all at once. And given all the knives attacks happening in the UK, it may not be a bad idea to actually hold onto the bottle of vodka until you get home ;) stay safe friend. Xx

@blue1948 a Russian hat sounds like the perfect item to keep your head and ears warm while you do your Christmas bits. I hope you have a good one.

@Barnfred 55 has it stopped pouring in your area today? And how are those Christmas light switches going? Don’t want to disappoint the kids in your area waiting for the magic of Christmas to happen.

@Gwladysover im glad the sun is shining your way, may it continue throughout the day. X

@Bluetintedspecs thanks for the lovely message, being a parent has been the hardest but most rewarding job I have ever encountered and wouldn’t change it for anything but you are right, it is tough seeing our babies grow and as they do so having that feeling that we can’t protect them any longer, this mama bear doesn’t like that feeling but it is one that I must accept as my daughter gets older and begins carving her own path.

Once again, thanks for caring. I’m so grateful to have met you all and even more thankful to Karl for creating this thread and giving us the opportunity to have a place to bond with one another.

Night night Messy and everyone. Did it stop raining for the Christmas lights switch on @Barnfred 55? Hope you have had a good day Messy, we are all thinking of you and sending our best wishes. Wishing you a restful night, sweet dreams all.?
Didn't stop raining all last night. Been heavy showers this morning too so I haven't ventured out. I imagine the switch on would have gone ahead as planned but they normally have a lot of events on with the village primary school kids (under 11s for those not from the UK) and that must have been a wash out.

Sun's now shining again as I type this. But it was shining 15 minutes ago too and inbetween there' been most humongous downpoor :)

Going to have a day in front of the telly with the racing I think. I'm on the wagon for a few days following my over indulgence during the week.

Hi Fred ,

Didn't realise that you lived that close to the Ferryboat Inn - you must have Trebah - one of the greatest gardens in England and one of my personal favourites on your doorstep.

I guessing that you must be close to Mawnan Smith - lovely little village.

At least that mixed weather is the type that’s perfect to stay in and watch telly and recover after your busy week with your mates. Enjoy the racing! X

ITV7?

Don't recall Lally's or McCrystals ever having the Peg Dunc. Sure you're not getting mixed up with The Saucer which I know one of the Lally's definitely had, I think it was Roy. The Walls used to run the Peg, certainly for the last 10/15 years of it's existence.

Did you know Alan McCrystal well? He was my elder sisters first beau so I've probably known him since I was about 12. His claim to fame was getting shot in the foot when he was standing at the bar in Jalons restaurant minding his own business. He's rolling around in pain and apparently all the mates he was with were too busy falling about laughing, ;)

Barry was a good mate. Me and my brother and him were always into quizzing and used to always win the Sunday night quiz in the Peg. Everyone used to go nuts. When I tell people my next door neighbour was a granddad at 32 nobody ever believes me, lol
Sorry it wasn’t McCrystals, it was O’Connor’s I think was there name, yep I knew Alan we went to Speke comp together he was a good goalie back in the day, good Blue also

I actually live in Mawnan Smith Jazzy, not too far from the Red Lion pub.

Yeah Trebah Gardens are spectacular, especially the palms, gunneras and tree ferns. It's like something out of Jurrasic Park. If anybody hasn't been there and like gardens, I'd recommend you google it. But we also have Glendurgan. Carwinion House and Bosloe House gardens and also have amazing gardens at the Meuden hotel that you are free to roam even if you just go there for an afternoon cream tea, which are delicious by the way. All of them are also spectacular in the spring with all the rhododendrons and azaleas in full bloom. It's such a mild climate down here it's a gardeners paradise.

Yeah the O'Connors had it from when I was a young lad. There were 3 lads if I remember rightly, Ray, Les and Dennis and a sister Elaine, who was the same age as me and an absolute tomboy. lol She used to play footie on the street with us (in the days when girls didn't play footie) and she was really good. If you're the same age as Alan you're probably about 3/4 years older than me. He played the odd game for us, usually if we were short of a keeper and Everton were playing away.
