Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hope your Dad is ok today Larbert, that is a horrific thing to have happen anyone.

Maybe 6 years ago i spent two days on a trolley in A&E awaiting surgery to take my appendix out, at the time there was chronic over crowding in the Irish hospital system and there were trollies in every corridor with people everywhere, i was one of them. I saw the most heart breaking situation i ever saw though, an old man came in from an old peoples home and took a shine to a girl in i guess her twenties who was on a trolley in the corridor as well. I have no idea what was wrong with her but she rarely moved and just lay curled up in a ball. Anyway this old man went over and started gently stroking her hair and saying "you know we always loved you so why did you have to have to leave to us" He did it with such love and affection it was incredible to watch but at the same time harrowing. Here you have an old man who isnt fully engaged believing he has found his i presume dead daughter and a girl who is too sick to deal with it. Hospital answer was to get a security guard to sit with him and everytime he got up to force him to sit down again, beyond cruel in my opinion as he was getting upset, the girl was upset but too sick to do anything herself and everyone watching it going on for hours were pleading with staff to sort it out. Eventually the man was moved away somewhere but what became of his world and his belief that his daughter was somewhere in the hospital?

The security guard "answer" horrifies me and makes me presume that our elderly arent treated with the respect they deserve in the care system, your Dads unfortunate incident only reinforces that belief
That's so sad. Without going into too much detail my job involves me being able to prevent people from working or volunteering in what is known as regulated activity. Teachers, doctors, nurses, care workers, football coaches, scout leaders and so on. Some of the stuff I read about on a daily basis is horrific, just wicked awful people. Some however are misguided, they make a bad decision that has unintended consequences and somebody is harmed. I feel sorry for a lot of care workers who come across my desk. Usually overworked underpaid undervalued and working in homes that are chronically understaffed to maximise profit but mostly trying to do their best. You are right though, our elderly are not treated with dignity and respect within the care system. They appear to be a commodity. It makes me so sad. I have actually cried while sitting at my desk when I read some of my referrals.

He's okay thanks if a little shaken, hopefully he's out later today, he's hardly slept over the last 4/5 he's been in, with not being able to see his GP for sometime, he's obviously had a few things going on, my parents aren't pushy in that respect for getting help.or assistance.

Morning Messy. Hope the new meds are kicking in and you're a bit more with it. Great to hear from you yesterday and I hope you take comfort from the fact everybody on here is a 1000% behind you and rooting for you.

Hello everybody else. Sorry not been about last few days. Been feeling a bit sorry for myself but Messy's post yesterday soon sorted that out giving me the kick up the backside that was needed.

Just about to pop out to the local shop and pick up a Cornish Pasty for lunch. Hopefully I can avoid the showers.
Hi Fred, good to hear from you pal, as has been said you've every right to feel sorry for yourself and you're right Messy puts us all to shame.
How lucky are you to get a proper Cornish pasty for your lunch between you and @jazzy with his Nepalese lunch it makes my Cheshire cheese and pickle butty seem inadequate ?

Morning all. @messymascot how are you today. It was so lovely to hear from you yesterday. I am truly in awe of your courage. You have touched so many hearts with your presence on here.

@jazzy , your poor Dad. What an awful experience for him. Sadly another sign of chronic underfunding and nowhere for people like your Dad's assailant to go other than in a general ward. There was somebody similar on my Dad's ward when he was in recently. Youngish bloke, drug and alcohol issues. Had to have a nurse beside his bed 24/7 to prevent him getting out of the ward or attacking the other patients. Enjoy your meal tonight.

I'm going to Liverpool tomorrow. The postponed Storm Arwen trip! Will be nice to see everybody.
I knew who you meant Anj? thanks for your cocern, yes not an ideal situation in the assailants case I think it is due to senility which is tragic in itself but they should not be able to mix with other patients who are trying to recover and be treated without the worry or threat of being attacked

Morning Messy, Fred and the gang.

@anjelikaferrett Contrary to what you and most other people feel about it getting dark early at this time of year, my16 year old daughter likes it. For her, I think it it's all part of feeling Christmassy, wrapping up warm at home with a cup of hot chocolate. It's her last day of mocks today, so she'll be on a Christmas high when she gets home later.

My 19 year old son is home from Uni next Tuesday. Last Christmas he worked at Morrison's and his mum told him that Tesco were looking for staff, but he said he didn't fancy listening to the Feliz Navidad song 17 times a day again. My only hangover this year was when he last visited. Looks like number two could well be on the way.

@messymascot It was brilliant to hear from you yesterday. I know it isn't easy for you to type, so we all really appreciate you making the effort. Hope you're having a comfortable, pain free day and getting used to the change in your meds. You've made a lot of friends on here mate and I'm sure you're also getting lots of friends visiting you, keeping your spirits up. Keep fighting, trooper. You're my hero.

@Barnfred 55 Was just about to ask how you're doing, as you've been a bit quiet on here lately, so just edited this bit. Good to hear from you mate.

Aww Fred. You have every right and good reason to feel sorry for yourself. You've been through such a lot and have had such a huge loss. Don't beat yourself up for having those days. Enjoy your pasty. I have lunch envy. We food shop on Fridays so I'm looking at a mouldy tomato, a curled up spring onion and a piece of bacon of questionable age in my fridge!

Appreciate it's tough Fred , but like Messy we are all here for you mate.

Should be a decent enough game on Sunday. Palace are very open under Viera , decent going forwards but ship a few goals- hopeful of a point at least.

Fred, forgot to mention in my earlier post. No need to apologise mate. You're fully entitled to feel a bit sorry for yourself under the circumstances, especially at this time of year.

Feel free to do whatever feels right to you on here, whether that's keeping a low profile or having a vent about how you feel. You're among friends here and friends are good listeners.
Cheers guys. Your support is appreciated.

I guess it's just the time of year. Lot's to do down here at this time of year and Cal loved to do most of it, and I'd invariably get dragged along ;). (I enjoyed it really, mostly!!). So I guess her not being here anymore sinks in more than usual.

Anyway my mood is much improved as I said. I enjoyed my pasty for lunch and am cooking a nice rib-eye for tea. I bought it last week for my mate as I didn't think he'd partake in the curry i cooked, but he surprised me. It's a couple of days past it's use by date but it'll be fine I'm sure. The English mustard I have with it will kill off any bacteria lol

Given the choice I would have all three in any order but the wife says no.

Have you tried it with horseradish sauce as that seems to be your kind of heat ? Stay strong .

Evening guys .

I know you've been waiting with bated breath for my restaurant / lunch review , so here it is.....

The Great Himalayas on Lord St in Southport is absolutely flipping fantastic.

Travelled widely in India and especially Northern India and into the Himalayas and in my humble opinion this restaurant's food was not only very very authentic but absolutely gorgeous - amongst the best Asian food I've eaten.

If you find yourself in Southport I'd really recommend that you give it a try.

Glad to hear that your mood is improved, this time of year is especially hard when you have lost someone. Hope you enjoyed the rib-eye, if it hadn’t turned green I‘m sure it was okay.lol

It was excellent thanks Gwladys. Even if I do say so myself. lol

Don't know about anybody else, but I like my steaks cooked simply. I just baste them with good olive oil and give them a good seasoning with black pepper and rock salt about an hour before cooking. I either cook on the barbie in the summer or on a grill pan at this time of year. However in the summer somebody left a full bottle of Waitrose Avacado oil at one of the cottages Cal and I cleaned, so we took it home. Next time we had a barbie it was steaks on the menu and I thought I'd give it a go rather than the olive oil. Well, it was one of those light bulb moments. Works well with lamb and pork on the barbie too.

I enjoyed cooking it and I enjoyed eating it more. ;)
