Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning Mascoteers,

@Terrarian - everything ok? Some decent weather coming so you can get some good Daisy walks in.

And with that good weather I can finally get out into the garden. So much to be done . Loads of weeds coming up as per usual in Spring, need to sharpen up the edges of the borders , redesign a section of the spring border ( taken two prostrate conifers out already to create space and will be buying some new rhododendrons at Bodnant next week) and power wash the patio and courtyard.

Ah well it's good to keep busy lol .

Legs day at the gym yesterday and had a good 2 hour intensive table tennis practice yesterday. I was lucky enough to train with a guy who is ranked no5 over 50 in England. "Just move him around a bit , he needs to improve his footwork" the coach told him. 15 minutes later I was sweating cobs and totally out of breath and at the end of each rally was hitting the ball increasingly harder desperately just trying to end the rally to catch my breath. Only problem was the harder I hit it the faster it came back and my playing partner was just grinning at me . Absolutely knackered at the end but delighted. We finished off playing a proper game and he played about 80% and I was really pleased to only lose 11-5 11-6 which I was pretty chuffed by especially when I got two of his best serves back and he looked at me saying " you shouldn't be able to return that ". Absolute privilege to play with someone at an elite level and it definitely improves your game.

Which is a roundabout way of trying to figure out why Onana who is captain of Belgium and supposedly one of the top young midfield talents in Europe looks so crap for us. Is the reverse of my experience true? That if you play with rubbish players and receive instructions from a manager who has got a clue and for whom you have no respect for causes you to lower your standards and , perhaps inadvertently not play to your true level ?

Anyway have a lovely day everyone.
Hi everyone. Yeah everything is ok here jazz thanks, just been getting a bit immersed in my gaming to try and stop the monotony. I didn't realise it's been so long since I posted, my days really do roll into one and I lose track of time. Plus I cba with football, I'm done with the Premier league in its current guise. So minimal Everton stuff.

We went and checked up the fields on Sunday and it's just a bog, muddy and waterlogged. Rain rain and more rain. If it's sunny morning it pisses down afternoon and vice versa it seems. Can't go a few days without rain and it's doing my head in.

Well done on your table tennis exploits jazzy! Be proud of yourself.

Re Onana, I think it’s pretty simple. Belgium have the luxury of playing him as a number 6 and he excels in the role. The Mighty Blues on the other hand expect him to not only sweep but also be a box to box midfielder who chips in with goals. It just isn’t his game.

This week seems to be hurtling towards Sunday sooner than I would like. The Everton angst is very real.

I watched a film called Arrival last night. Very good but I had to read up after as I didn’t quite understand the ending! Anyone else seen it?
Yes I’ve seen it twice , I went to the pictures and like you didn’t really get the ending. Then my wife put it on the telly and for some reason it had subtitles and everything became clear !. Very good film as you say.

Glad it wasn’t just me Big J!

I really enjoyed it despite not fully appreciating the ending initially.

Hi all. I've already posted this on Facebook so I would like to share my gardening prowess with you all.
Last year I planted a herb garden. They all died except one which flourished in the scratty bit of soil I planted them in. Since then whenever a recipe has called for flat leaf parsley I have gone out, picked a few leaves and chopped them up and put them in whatever I was cooking. I felt extremely proud of my sustainable home grown herb. Yesterday I discovered I have not been including parsley in my, fortunately rare, culinary masterpieces. The herb I have been using is in fact wormwood - prime ingredient of absinthe, toxic and hallucinogenic in large quantities! On the plus side it does have health benefits - cleanses the body and a good anti- inflammatory. You can also make wormwood tea.
This year's gardening is potatoes and flowers only. I may however take up home brewing!

This has amused and terrified me in equal measure 😀

No wonder MrF didn't get that job!
That would be a fabulous defence to run to a murder by poisoning

Morning all, bright blue sky here and a fine day forecast for once. Hope the sun is shining where you are @Terrarian so that Daisy is able to take you out for a walk.
We’re off into town. The husband bought a socket set in B&M on Tuesday, a bargain I was told. He has numerous socket sets so quite why he needed a new one was lost on me. The ratchet thingy doesn’t work, surprise, surprise! My remark “That’s probably why it’s so cheap compared with a decent one” was met with a withering stare. Good job I kept the receiptlol
Have a good day, all.💙

Do you have a B&M garden centre? They have the most bizarre pricing policy. Some really expensive normal plants but some of their exotic palms are ridiculously cheap. I genuinely think they haven't got a clue.....

Which brings me to Everton. The continual problems on and off the field seem to drain you like a permanent constant cold . I get the impression that the fan base are becoming immune to the never ending bad news and apathetic about the lack of light at the end of the tunnel.

So, I try to take refuge in music , books , participating in sport and gardening .

Got a very special guest coming at the weekend but can't say too much at this stage lol .

Gym this morning and if stays dry gardening, if not re cataloging my music collection - what an exciting life I lead.

@Barnfred 55 hope you are ok mate - are you just posting on a Friday with G&T photos now?

Have a lovely day everyone.

Sadly I think you are right. The energy just doesn’t seem to be there in the fan base for the coach welcomes and raucous crowds that we saw before.

I think you are right about Everton. It has to be affecting the players and the manager too. I think after the first deduction everybody was up for the fight and pulled together- with great results. Then comes news of the potential second deduction and it just seemed to knock the stuffing out of everybody. A sort of collective ' what's the point'. I understand that from a human level. Uncertainty is very bad. Then add in the takeover, Moshiri's apparent withdrawal from any funding AND maybe a 3rd deduction if they decide that the £6.5m on stadium costs that the second panel seemed to avoid commenting on, is classed as 'losses'. It's a perfect storm. It also makes me very sad.

Morning guys, still very overcast here, there was frost this morning but it's quite temperate now.

I just went to have a look behind my wardrobe because last year the bloody spiders decided to make it a home and there was webs top to bottom. I get far too many spiders at this time of year. Anyway no spiders but I think I have a beetle infestation instead. At least I think they are without pulling it out completely. I need to but it's a very heavy oak wardrobe.

Anyway nothing exciting, I'm going to research what to do about beetles.
