Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all on this sunny day .I hope all had a good night and have a fine day today . Hoping to cut the grass but we have had showers so we will have to see .
I have just found out that the longest word in the English dictionary is not antidisestablishmentarianism in fact it is much much longer -190,000 letters ,it must have its own chapter !
When I was 8 my dad told me that the longest word was terminologicalinexactitude as used by Winston Churchill in Parliament.

Are you telling me he lied to me Blue?

For some reason Dad loved to teach me obscure words when I was growing up. He would sit me on his knee and make me read the newspaper and explain to him the meaning of any "difficult" words . I remember , think I was about 6 , asking the primary school teacher if we could still play football if it was inclement and the look of shock on his face. According to dad , he (dad) was absolutely delighted when the teacher raised the discussion at an open evening.

No idea where Dad got this fascination from.

I must have been about 9 or 10 when our class had a spelling contest, each of us had to give the class a word to spell, a wrong answer meant you were knocked out, last one left got a prize. One boy’s entry :“Hexachlorophene”, knocked the rest of the class out in one go! As an aside I have always had difficulty spelling “across”. Don’t know how many times I was made to write out “across” correctly at school, I was once made to do it 100 times! Still doesn’t look right to me, I still think it should be “accross”.

Well, it was a busy day. Wife changed at 6.00am as usual then documentation for Companies House, sign off accountants documentation, visit to the Bank and Bank transfer of monies to buy out three other shareholders in the Pub, update to PCI compliance sorted and now reviewing alternative Debit and Credit card transactions providers. Then it’s change my wife again and take her to pick up my granddaughter from school and drive her home. Get back, relax for an hour then visit to the pub. I’ve done more in part of a day than 777 did in nine months ffs…I hope I sleep well tonight…..
By any chance, did you share a pub with Bell and Downing?

I love language and words. Doing a Latin O Level was a source of endless fascination for me - you can pick out the origin of so many words. I used to read my kids Rudyard Kipling's Just So stories at bedtime because they are so beautifully written - they just flow.
I hope you all are having a good day. I'm off out with some work colleagues . We're going for tapas in Darlington so that should be good. I think it's important to keep these bonds when you are home working.
I really really don't want any Saudi input into Everton so I've got everything crossed for the Dell backed consortium.

Your talk of tapas has made me jealous now. I was out last week and one dish I chose was Guinness glazed pork cubes and it was divine. One thing about tapas, always better with your mates so you get a try of everything.

One of my kids has been getting a hard time off a teacher in school. A sensitive lad, too young to really fight his own corner but raised to have full respect for his teachers anyway. Today I actually got to speak to said teacher to raise my concerns about their treatment of my lad. I wasn’t looking forward to it but one must do these things.

I found her every bit as aggressive as my lad had told me. Honestly my good friends, I took great pleasure in verbally dissecting this individual and setting out how things will be moving forward. Some people are just in the wrong jobs and really should look for something more befitting and life affirming. Not this teacher though, they are just imbecilic and beyond redemption.

There, it’s off my chest and I move on 😀

The main thing to come from this is that you know your son is doing what you have taught him,not taking it out on the teacher but showing the respect that you told him to,as we all know he will have these tests all his life and if he does the "right " thing you can ask no more than that . She will get her comeuppance in due time whereas your son will get stronger with you by his side . Well done with the lecture though .

Good for you. My DIL is a teacher and mostly I have the greatest respect for them, they do a difficult job and the good ones have a far reaching effect on children’s lives. That said, sometimes you come across teachers who seem to take delight in making pupils lives a misery, most of my teachers were like that. I would have thought things had moved on since my schooldays but my grandson had to move classes because of the attitude of one member of staff. There are two boys with the same name in his class so to differentiate them the teacher decided to call my grandson Ginger Harry. When Harry stumbled over his words when reading out loud, said “I thought you would be able to read better, you have got four eyes after all”. The last thing he needed as he was already being bullied over his ginger hair and glasses.

For my son to know that he was trusted was the main thing I wanted him to take from the scenario. Never to be afraid to tell me anything and that home was always safe.

We can’t live their lives for them and they will have to see off their own bullies one day themselves. You do meet some very unpleasant people as you navigate life but I suppose that makes you appreciate the kind people even more.

What a horrible thing to do to a child. Kids are so conscious of any differences and for an adult to highlight them was cruel.

Ginger hair is the mark of a true Celt. With your genealogy skills I’m sure it won’t be a difficult link to find.

Reading the above couple of posts, I find them really disturbing wondering how any teacher could be so crass.

I’m afraid I would not have been nearly so polite dealing with them, but could have guaranteed it would never have happened again……
Yes I would have probably gone straight to the top . There is sometimes no point dealing with people like that .

Good morning all on this overcast day .I hope all are well after a good kip. I had some terrible teachers one delighted in caning me ,he used to jump as high as he could to get more power .Oh how I would love to meet him now . Not much going on here at the moment ,just waiting for the footie to start even though I will only watch the highlights .Southgate has a lot of special players I just hope he has the courage to go for it .Sadly I cannot see it happening as we always bottle it in big games .COYB
On the new owners ,I sort of want them to have no real affection for the club coming in ,I suppose I don't want a Bill no.2 .Just give me a football fan with a business head on as we seem to be far from out of the gooey stuff . Have a great day all.
