Just a quick but truly shocking update. My mate's daughters didn't go to the event but his brothers daughters did.

Both his kids were involved. One is in a very bad way stabbed 8 times , 6 in the back one in the arm and one in the stomach. She was in surgery for 6 hours yesterday. His other daughter was stabbed once in the back and in the arm but should be ok.

I've only met his brother/ the dad once but he used to play TT for us before my time at the club.

The grandfather also plays and is a very good friend.

This is devastating.

It's such a devastatingly shocking and sad event that I'm doing my usual and avoiding it as much as I can. But that's very difficult because it is everywhere at the moment as you would expect. It's always exponentially worse when you personally know somebody directly involved, not least because it makes it more real. These tragic events also make you put other things into perspective. I've learned to see most things in perspective and it's a good coping mechanism.

Anyway mate, try and keep yourself occupied as it will help take your mind off it.

A friend of mine has just spoken to the grandfather to make sure he's ok.

The eldest daughter was stabbed in the back trying to protect her young sister. What bravery.

The youngest is having an operation today.

Naturally the grandfather is in bits.

I'm not religious but please pray for them.

What a terrible thing for you too ,it must be so harrowing for all of Southport and the TT club .It is so hard to comprehend such behaviour .Best wishes to the family if you ever get chance to offer .

Good morning everyone except sorry it really isn't.

Words usually don't fail me but at this time I'm choked and can't think.

I have a couple of friends and members of my table tennis club who live on or close to Hart Street in Southport.

One has 2 daughters aged 9 and 12 . I don't know , I pray that they didn't , go to the Taylor Swift event but it's exactly the sort of thing that they would have gone to.

For obvious reasons I don't want to contact them and none of my friends/ members know if any harm has come to them .

I cannot for one second comprehend what the parents of the kids involved are going through.

Oh God that's awful. I hope they are OK.

Jazz that is devastating, I’m 3000 miles away but this has really upset me, how someone can arm themselves with a knife knowing they where going to do what they did is just pure evil

I have been in such a blur since the weekend that I am only seeing the news about Southport now. I despair for this world at times.

Right wing bigots are starting to get a foothold everywhere. Social media has made their views seem normal as so many are joining in with like minded bile.

It’s a shameful act. A town is in mourning for the little girls who died and praying for the recovery of those who were badly injured. Basic human respect seems to have disappeared……

They have been emboldened sadly. 50 police officers injured and 3 dogs - two with leg injuries from bricks thrown at them and one with burns . I fear for the future if this sort of thing escalates.
