Sorry you missed out on turkey mate, but sounds like you’ve got plan B well and truly covered!!

I’ll be on intermittently between bursts of cooking so we can share tales of our progress. You won’t really be dining alone when you have all us pestering you for a nose at your sexy pigs in blankets!

Sure we can set up a GoFundMe or something mate?

Something to help ease the burden of the family and show our appreciation for him sharing his time with us.

Like you Tommy I was a relatively late follower of this thread.

I'm sure that @Barnfred 55 , @Earwigjoe , @Reedy1979 , @anjelikaferrett and @Sassy Colombian aee likely to know Karl's personal situation and in particular if he left dependents.
a Chara, Tommy that'd be a great idea, i mentioned your idea about the funeral costs but they never mentioned it, they're more worried about the funeral and any further restrictions that may be put on it. The funerals not until 7th January so hopefully there will no more restrictions. I think your idea about anybody wanting to donate to a cancer charity on Karls behalf is a great idea though mate. Hows your mum keeping?? I hope your trip overhere was good and shes feeling much better now. Merry Christmas to you and the family. Nollaig Shona Daoibh. ?

Sounds nice mate. Hope your wife isn't suffering too much, nasty stuff rheumatoid arthritis.
Well we caught it early so other than a bent toe and a few off days she has done very well ,she has a cousin who is crippled with it ,so sad to see and a lovely woman ,she has a friend that they put in -100 °c to help that is why our pool is not heated as we want it as cold as we can ,it is also good for my old knees as cold water releases natural cortizone and the lower the better for the temperature .My record is +2.6°c and that is almost a hole in the stomach cold .

Living on my own I don't have to bother doing anything for Christmas, just another day to me. It'll be the same routine and same crappy food for tea lol
I have a christmas pudding in a tin ,it's sell by date was in 2003 if I remember correctly ,I can send it to you if you want but you have to get your own custard -none of this brandy sauce lark ?

When I lived at home with my parents, I always went to the pub on Christmas lunch. We always had lunch around 2.30 so when I rolled in around that time there were no issues. But when the Sunday hours increased to 3, and I started rolling in about 3.30, my dad used to go nuts.

I'd also always go and get ratted after work on Xmas eve when Cal was slaving away at home preparing for Christmas lunch. That was until Cal fell over on the dance floor on her works Christmas night out, and broke her wrist. So she couldn't cook the Christmas lunch, so I had to do it (under her direction of course). Well up until then I didn't know how much work was involved, but the dinner was lovely and I got a real sense of achievement, even if Cal was like a parrot on my shoulder all the way through. From that year on I never went for a drink after work on Christmas even again, or just had the one or two. We prepared Christmas lunch together, prepping the veg, stuffing and prepping the turkey, cooking a ham, making our own cranberry sauce, stuffing, bacon rolls and pigs in blankets. and, most importantly, drinking copious amounts of port. Happy days.
What a great memory of Cal ,stay strong tomorrow Fred ,I will be on making sure you and @Terrarian are up and about .

Too right. Forgot to say I loved your story about you and Cal swimming off Elba! Really made me smile. Not swimming related but beach related. Mr F and I went to Ibiza a few years ago. Stayed off the beaten track in a lovely hotel run by an Italian family. We would walk to the beach each morning and discovered it was where all the elderly Spanish nudists hung out. Honestly there was about 8 of them and none of them looked younger than 70. They never batted an eyelid when we walked past, would wave and greet us with a cheery "Hola!" as we made our way further along the beach!
You have to stop giving me these visions !

I understand Anj. I have the same problem cooking for 1. I did an omelette last night and I put all sorts of things in, depending on what I have in the fridge. Last night it was onions, mushrooms, bacon and cheese. I had that much filling I couldn't fold the omelette over lol. It was very nice though, even if i do say so myself.
Have you tried garlic in it Fred as well as onion ?

You are absolutely right. Our relationship with food is very complex. Everybody knows what you are supposed to do but the actual doing it is much harder. A lot of it is in your head - as you rightly said about boredom and stress. I'm feeling quite motivated now I have a plan so hopefully I can get on with it after Christmas.
Another tip is to chew every bit ( not soups ) as they taught in school ,apparently your craving for food is quenched by the amount of times you chew ,so you sate the craving by chewing more also when eating chocolate suck and don't chew and it will last longer so you will get quite full after one or two squares -that is the theory .Good luck .

Good morning campers on this Finnish Christmas day ,I got up ealier this morning to read all the posts ,Karl would be so happy to see the way this is evolving ,it is a virtual coffee shop . I hope all are well and strong this beautiful day .
