Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Jazzy's List of Imaginary Christmas Pressies....

1. For the World. Santa forgets the kids for 1 year and instead delivers the vaccine to every human being.

2. For Everton . A new right back , centre midfielder , right wing , centre half and striker. ( I might have asked for more but didn't want to be greedy )

3. For Snr Benitez . The Pep Guadiola book of Modern Football Tactics

4. For all my chums on GOT. A year of health and happiness.

I remember ( remarkablely well actually ) a drunken evening involving teachers from Norway - and no they weren't kopites.

To cut a long story short a Head teacher and her husband were visiting from Stavangar and Mrs Js head of languages was entertaining them.

Head of language panicked and insisted that we join them.

What time we asked. " They are getting here at 2.30 so get here for 2pm for a loosener".

So we todled off to Allerton at the appointed time. Beef bourgogne and veggie chilli was on the stove as we tucked into the first of many bottles of wine.

2 hours later we wondered where our guests were.

"Where are you ?" she screamed into her mobile "Well get a cab and get here as soon as possible"

30 minutes later the Norwegian couple with 2 kids in tow turned up.

Seemed that her email had said they were arriving at the airport at 2.30 not the house at Allerton!

Anyway they took 1 look at us , saw how smashed we were, picked up the bottle of wine and each necked the largest glass of wine in 30 seconds.

Sadly the food was completely overcooked, but no matter we had the best night ever as the teachers husband got on the piano and played Beatles number non stop and without music for 2 hours.

The Norwegians said it was the best night ever and their kids seemed to enjoy playing with the dog!
That‘s my kind of teacher, sadly the ones at our school were practically fossilised and very straight laced except our French teacher who used to regale us with stories of her student days in Paris before the war. The second one not the first.?

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. The husband and I are gearing ourselves up for the present swap this evening. This involves waiting until two sets of grandkids are in bed/bath, dropping presents off and putting in parents car boot, then repeat procedure at other house. Wasn’t too bad in previous years as one set lived over the road from us but they have now moved 10 miles away. Eldest is 13 so we don’t have to keep the secret for him but the youngest is only 5 so we’ll be doing this for a few more years but who wants to sit and relax on Christmas Eve anyway lol. Hope the weather clears for you @Barnfred 55, be thinking of you over the holiday. Enjoy the day everyone whatever you are doing.

Hi jazzy, I do a different route everyday so she doesn't get bored, it's the one thing I stick too, if I'm too sore I just do a shorter walk but try to get at least 45mins-1 1/2 hrs in the morning, down from 2-4 hrs though which sucks, I used to work late shift so mornings were free.

I'm also a non drinker these days, couldn't imagine a hangover these days lol it would kill me off I reckon lol
It's been heartwarming to read about your relationship with your dog mate. She gives you purpose and you're good for each other.

Read your posts with great interest blue.

First Merry Christmas to you and hope you heathens haven't eaten all the reindeer and that Santa still has enough to do.the business tonight.

The thought of Santa not emptying his sack is not one I would like to countenance.

Anyway have to say your posts paint a very interesting picture of a lifestyle that frankly I would find totally alien.

How long did it take you to adjust , if you ever have?

The weather here can get you down but af least its not unrelentingly cold and dark.

Regardless I hope that you and your family have a wonderful festive holiday.
Thanks ,the language is the hard part I have still not mastered it by any stretch of the imagination .Not to bore you but almost all words have up to 200 different endings ,yes it is different but not so much really and almost all speak English ,the dark cold nights are the payment for the long hot days in summer ,we can have +30° and more in the summer and sit in the garden until about 3 a.m. watching deer walk past ,so as everything in life it is a trade off .It is nowhere near as bad as you think and the Gurdian once did a travel survey and Finland was found to be an undiscovered gem .
I hope you all have a great time and good luck with the dog .

That's so special and so fun. Enjoy x

Morning everyone.

I'll be making Christmas log today with the kids, which has been a bit of a family tradition since they were small. My son is now 19 and my daughter 16, so I'm pleasantly surprised they still want to take part in making it. The recipe is originally from my wife's family in Malta.

My son was out last night, but lost his key, and was banging on the front door for half an hour before my wife finally woke up and let him in at 4am. I was blissfully unaware and slept through it.

Hope all you lovely people have a great day.

I love your posts. So interesting to hear about how you celebrate Christmas in Finland. Sauna, mulledwine and bacon wrapped glazed cherries sounds like a lovely way to spend your day.
We also sit around and sing carols and some play instruments and we have a visit form Santa every year ,sadly Markku ( the patriarch of the family ) always goes somewhere just before he arrives and misses his visit . It is an old way and no TV or radio ,something I have come to cherish .

Do the Finns believe in Shamen ? Or is that someone else?
