Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Dear @larbert toffee I hope your parents had a lovely 65 wedding anniversary, that’s quite an accomplishment. Have a great time visiting and taking care of them when you go to Merseyside next week.

@Terrarian pain is not something that I would get used to either. I’m sorry you have to endure so much at such a young age. Did your spine get injured? My husband had a really bad a car accident when he was 16 that messed his spine so he himself lives with a lot of pain, I’m fearful what’s going to happen to him as he gets older.

While there is a lot of horrible human beings, there are also so many that have goodwill and show kindness towards others, such as your neighbor. It is people like her that can make a great difference on a person’s life without realizing it.

She is a cutie!

Congrats! Time to live a little more :)

Why are you making such promises. There is nothing wrong with showing us your learned task here at GOT, not matter how much people are tease about it, pics add a new layer of vision to the forum.

Btw, your fella is a nice one. I hope all goes well with the outcome of his x-rays

They indeed sound like a pair of legends, how sweet.

I’m just curious if they also love cannabis as much as we do? lol

That’s such a lovely movie, I haven’t watch it in so that seems like a good movie to watch with the family while gathering the next few days.

Sounds like a great plan, enjoy your food and the painting. Xx

I feel like a bad mum because I never was willing to give in to the Elf on the shelf tradition but I’m glad I didn’t after seeing my best friend going through it. You are a good dad for it.

Have a great time exchanging presents this evening, you are great parents for going through all this effort this for your grandkids ?

Malta Christmas logs, sounds like a recipe would like to have :D

Well said, Tommye!

Making your own eggnog, now that’s impressive. How hard is it?
For a moment there I thought Zat had gatecrashed the Messy thread lol

I can’t imagine how different today must feel and how much you must miss her, but even despite the lump in my throat from reading your post it’s also made me smile.

We don’t have a say in when this dreaded, inevitable thing happens so all we can do before it does is make the kind of memories and traditions that will sustain us after it does.

I’m truly in awe - much as I was of the big man @messymascot - of how well you’re coping and the amazing attitude you have about everything. I didn’t have the privilege of knowing her but I’m certain your wife is exceptionally proud of you.

I hope you have the loveliest time you can over the next few days and that you’re able to cherish the gifts you guys managed to squirrel away in your memory banks in the time you had.

In the meantime, follow my pointless cooking updates and increasingly drunken ramblings if that helps get you through!!

Merry Christmas, sir.

Superb post mate, @Barnfred 55 is an absolute gentleman.

I did it in the Thermomix so not hard at all. If you can separate eggs, you’ll be fine; that’s by far the hardest part of the process.
Although I enjoy cooking I hate handling Eggs. There's one chines dish I do called strange taste chicken (a Ken Hom recipe) where you use a mix of egg white and cornflour to soften the chicken before cooking, so I need to separate the yolk. Absolutely hate doing it. The yolk is used up in the egg fried rice.

OK back from the pub.

Had a very unfestive Fish and Chips - but it was great and limited myself to just 1 pint of Guinness.

I plucked up the courage to ask Mrs J why her mum hated the Beatles.

The story passed down through the family is as jaw dropping as implausable / possible.

Her eldest sister ( 1 of 6 !) now passed away had gone into town for the evening and came back hideously late.

Her mum gave her down the banks and was threatening to hit her when she blamed Paul McCartney for being late home saying that she had been in the Cavern and he'd been chatting her up.

Apparently since that day Mrs Js mum was set against the fab 4.

Mo was 18 years older than Mrs J so its possible or perhaps she just thought of something to distract her mum - who know!

I’ve seen him do that on tv before - doesn’t he call it “velveting” the chicken or something similar? Sounds lovely though. Will have to give it a crack one day.

I know what you mean about the texture of raw eggs and handling them, but my patience supersedes any issue I might have with that so when I need to separate an egg I just crack it into my hand and let the white run off into a bowl and chuck the yolk wherever its going.

Chrimbo prep update:

Gravy base (chicken wings, veg, herbs) has been roasted and is currently mashed up and frying to get a bit darker. The gravifying process will begin shortly.

Spuds are par boiled, taking a goose fat bath and wrapped in foil. Tomorrow I’ll take out of the fridge, foil off, season and in they’ll go.

Getting smugger by the minute, though I’m also on my second beer of the day so still time for everything to go horribly wrong.
Just decided to treat myself to a beer too Brett. Thanks for the nudge. ;)

Honestly don't know what's happened to my spine, no accidents or anything it just came out of nowhere,

Watched Marley and me earlier, what a gargantuan nobhead I am.

I might be the proud owner of the biggest cat thread on GoT but as I said in it, I am a dog man.

Cats are boss, dogs break your heart and I say that as a huge selling point, no other animal gives it's heart so willingly.
Marley and me always get's to me too mate. Have you ever seen Eight Below?. It's even worse. lol

Cheers mate. That was a lovely post and very eloquently put.

Pretty much Fred.

Starters Stilton and broccoli soup , with Chablis.

We will then have roasties , sprouts , honey glazed parsnips, carrot and turnip mash , peas , stuffing and a bit of Quorn roast - meant to taste like chicken but it doesn't - just for the texture , with a St Emillion.

Then sticky toffee pudding with cream.

After a kip some cheese and Port
Sounds good. Even to a fully paid up carnivore like myself.
