Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello, friends. I apologize for my late response and absence the past few days but on Wednesday my husband woke up with a fever, congestion, and body aches (I was telling you all this on that report that I never got to post.) By Friday morning I was also as sick, thus the past few days have been a bit muddling and miserable. Just today do I have enough energy and feel lucid enough to get back on here and let you know what's been happening. We both took at home Covid test and they came negative, but to ensure it's not covid since the omicron variant is not always found on these tests, we also sent PCR tests for evaluation and are waiting for the results. For now, we are isolating and trying to recover from whatever we have, whether it's the flu or Covid it hasn't been fun . We got to travel through Costa Rica and never got exposed to the virus but came home and may have gotten it here ?

It makes me so sad that while I've been sick that I missed Karl's funeral and remembrance. I have yet to catch up to the post but I'm going to try do that throughout the day. I hope everyone's week is going more smoothly than mine. Missed you all. xx
Sorry to hear that Sass. I, probably like most on here, assumed you were busy updating your CV and completing your job application.

Take care and hope you and hubby get better soon.

Sending love ❤

Missed you too, Sassy. Hope you are both better soon?

Drove home Thursday evening, had to get up early Friday to look after my youngest granddaughter, did an eight hour shift later and was absolutely knackered, got a good sleep that night, had a peanut butter and banana butty for energy and was raring to go at work Saturday evening.
I'm one of these rarities who actually enjoy their work if left to my own devices.
Getting back to your point Fred I am full of admiration for anyone who is caring for their loved one's.
It was mainly Cal, but I used to help out, especially with the shopping. When I got early retirement Cal also gave up work so she could devote 100% of her time to looking after her family. Her mum was in early stages of dementia and her uncle was housebound following a stroke. So she never held down a full time job at the same time. Cudos to those that can.

I’m so sorry to hear this especially about your dad mate , hope things improve soon.

I looked after my mum a lot , late in life daily often multiple visits home . It usually ends up being one family member that carries more of the burden , in Cal’s case her brother holding the fort to ‘give you both a break ‘ was it like they were doing you a little favour lol ? It be always amused me , like it was my actual job and it was a little treat to get the help . From little I know of you and your missus though it doesn’t feel surprising that you carried the weight .

Ultimately I suppose we only get what we can cope with don’t we Fred ?
In fairness H I'm the youngest of 7, including 3 sisters, so got off lightly with caring for my own mum and dad. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

Cheers Harry, he is improving albeit at 86 if he can get a bit more mobility and his confidence improves, hopefully the rest will improve.
My brother is looking into going part time at work and becoming their official carer so that would be a good thing all round.
The shame is my Dad is still sharp as a tack, it's just his body that's failing him.
Small mercies and that mate. From a family perspective, I.e. you and I, dementia is the worst off all illnesses. Heartbreaking.

Afternoon all. Son and girlfriend have just left to go back to Nottingham. I did a roast dinner before they left. Hate to blow my own trumpet but it was pretty spot on. Also my meat carving skills have increased about 1000% since I got a new set of kitchen knives for Christmas. I could actually do thin slices rather than chunks!

The whole weekend has been lovely. She seemed to like us, we definitely like her. And even Everton came good!

I'm not a big tea drinker. Much prefer coffee. The only person I drankbtea with was my mother in law. The first time I met her she asked would I like a cuppa. I was too polite to decline so from then on every time I went round she would say "I've got the kettle on for a cup of tea". I never told her any different.

Hop you are all having a good Sunday.
Glad you had a nice weekend with your son and his girlfriend Anj, big bonus that you like her, you can now put your feet up and enjoy the rest of your day you deserve it.

Afternoon all. That lovely, relaxed Chrimbo period seems so long ago now, I feel like I’ve lost the thread of this, well, thread now.

Been straight back into the old routine, which I’m not sad about as I’m back at the gym and getting some peace and quiet from my little angels so less stress and working off those Chrimbo KGs.

Anyway, got lamb shoulder roasting in the oven and a cobbler ready to chuck in once dinner is served. Also prepping lunches for the week for me and the wife. Kids are at their nanny’s so getting what I can done but making sure to have 5 mins sit down here and there.

Hope life is good for everyone else in here (and every other thread; I don’t discriminate!).

Get well soon @Sassy Colombian and Señor Sassy, whatever your ailments.
